How is the infrastructure in your area people?

I know damn well that the "gas" tax that is supposed to go to infrastructure hasn't been seen in my area.

About 3 months ago the DOT put in a culvert just down the road from my house. This is a paved road. So, they put it in and filled in the gap with gravel. Every couple weeks they would lay some more gravel down and bring the plow to even it out. This went on for months. All of the money they spent maintaining that little gravel patch (5-10 ft) they could have paved it many, many times over. It's like a bunch of monkeys are in charge. A highschool kid could have done a better job managing.

The Feds spend more money than anyone and don't produce anything. They simply steal other peoples property and give to countries that hate us and bums who refuse to produce anything.

The Patriots were determined to prevent the tea on these ships from being landed on American soil, because if it were, a tax would be due upon it. Parliament had passed a new law, the Tea Act of 1773, which kept a small tax of three pence on all English tea brought into the American colonies. This shipment of tea was from the East India Company, and it would be consigned, or sold, only to seven Boston merchants selected by the East India Company. They were all loyal to the British government.

Tea was imported regularly to the American Colonies starting in the early 1720s. By the 1760’s, colonists were consuming 1.2 million pounds of tea a year. Both men and women had come to enjoy it as an everyday beverage, although it was most popular among the ladies of cosmopolitan communities such as Boston.

England soon realized that it could make more money on the tea trade by imposing new taxes. This made English tea very expensive. In response to the increase in the price of English tea, colonists began smuggling cheaper tea from Holland. While Parliament knew about the smuggling, it had a hard time enforcing the law. There were not enough customs officials in the colonies, and the nooks and crannies of the American coastline made it easy to find ways to smuggle goods into the colonies.

In 1767 Parliament responded to smuggling by passing the Indemnity Act. This repealed the duty on tea and made English the same price as Dutch tea. This pleased both the English East India Company and law-abiding colonial merchants. However, Parliament also passed the Townshend Acts in 1767, which once again put a tax on tea.

The colonists protested against the taxes for many reasons. They believed that Britain was unfairly using the taxes to help pay for British troops sent to America during the French and Indian War (1754-1763). Perhaps most importantly, they felt that Parliament did not have the right to tax them because the American colonies had no representative in Parliament. The colonists believed that only taxes they were able to vote on were legal.

The Sons of Liberty, a group of colonists organized to protest English rule, warned merchants, artisans, and others that more unjust laws would follow. Colonists began to boycott British goods to protest taxes. As tea was the most common and widely used of the newly taxed items, attention was focused on the tea tax. The anti-British movement and the boycott of British goods were successful. In the spring of 1770, Parliament repealed the Townshend Acts and the duties on all items – except tea

The whole idea behind the "support our troops" slogan is that it isn't their fault that they are committing such unpatriotic actions--It is the government's fault, which with intensity commands them to do disgusting things else their lives and family's lives will be forfeit.

You can be patriotic and support the people of your country, while knowing that we are in fact under the control of a brutal regime. They will monitor us, strip us of our free speech, disarm us. They will sexually assault us when we wish to travel. They will shoot our dogs, who are simply trying to protect us, when they break into our homes.

I'm not sure what being patriotic is, anymore. It certainly isn't something that is seen often. It would probably be the rare person who stands up for America and against the establishment without fear for their lives and without hiding behind a computer screen. Those people have long since perished, I'm afraid.

So I guess all the parasites on the dole are not 'patriots". Only the poor schlubs who are still dumb enough to work.

There is a 3' stream with a "Bridge" over it down the road....it is collapsing....so instead of just doing what me and my neighbors would call "fix it right"....they come in about every 4 months....block off the road and "repair" it. This has gone on for as long as I can remember......more than 10 years......job security!!

haha, so true. In CT every summer the roads are blocked for the patchwork "repair" - i.e. slapping down new asphalt over the holes, keeping the DeTomaso boys busy . By winter the ice starts tearing apart the blacktop and it's potholes as usual

I was so shocked when I first went to Canada. Despite the ice and snow the roads were perfect - and concrete. Roads built to last, what's that?

A lot of very old road in Iowa I have traveled on are concrete and in much better shape than any "new" asphalt road
