Re: Do you TIP at Sonic? I always do but NEVER again!
I often have lunch at Sonic (love the grilled chicken sandwich) since it is close to my job, and always tip the carhop whatever change I have coming back. Today my order totaled 5.23, I gave her 6 dollars and told her to keep the change, she looks at me crazy and says "wow thanks ALOT!". I'm like damn what does she expect for merely carrying out a sandwich and a limeade? Don't get me wrong I know they are poorly paid and that's why I always try to tip them. What do you guys think am I wrong?
 Quoting: SimplyDelicious

No, not wrong. 15% is decent. What is sad isn't you but the ingratitude of the server. 99% of the customers wouldn't tip a dime.

But personally I find that amount +/- difficult. I'd probably leave a dollar minimum. Even worse is getting a cup of coffee to go. Does one tip on a $2.00 coffee, and if so, how much? Again, I would err on the high side.

Well if they take out 100 orders on their shift and they get .75 each thats an extra $75 a nite, if they are not happy with that. Then don't given any. The youngsters of the day are too ungreatful
 Quoting: Farley's Ghost

Yea seriously, .50 is AWESOME when you add it up over a night.

I wish I got tips at my job, I am considering being a waiter so that I can do extremely well, get on people's good side, and get loads of tips.

Fuck off baby boomer scum.

Oh a stupid youngster.

Obvious because they do not know nor take the time to understand that not all people have spell check in their browser.

Maybe that sentence above is to long and boring for you to understand.

Now...to the OP...

I really think you should tip. Don't let one person keep you from being kind to others.

Good for you SimplyDelicious that shows character and understanding!!! Smiley

For every ingrate fool like the one you encountered there may be 3 more who are grateful, diligent, competent and gracious others who could use the money from providing a crucial service to their company and you the consumer, someone who will do good in their lives for themselves and others.

You will in a small way help make that youngster.

Now if you run across the girl who scoffed at you again thats another story...

Stunned to receive 77 cents? Even though OP's tip is 15%, the minimum should be a dollar.

Re: Do you TIP at Sonic? I always do but NEVER again!
I am currently a carhop at sonic and have been working in the sonic industry for about a year now. I started out at $3.50, obviously not minimum wage. I used to feel like ANY kind of tip was much better than no tip at all. They're very much appreciated. But now even when I don't get a tip I'm still grateful that they paid the full price instead of jipping me. I've had people give me cards to run inside and were declined and they just drive off. So I would come up negative at the end of my shift having to pay out of my own pocket. However anytime I go anywhere that excepts tips I go above and beyond, at least according to the service I receive, of course. But a little bit of something is always appreciated.

BTW. Carhops do the absolute most. From cleaning windows, restrooms, tables, and menues. Keeping everything inside of the store clean and sanitary. And scrubbing and spraying the floors inside the store up to 3 times a day. All on top of taking the orders, making the drinks and all ice cream products, and bagging the food, all before bringing out the orders. We work hard for our costumers to be happy. We deserve even the tiniest amount possible.
