My best guess is that the people around us are going to become increasingly paranoid, including the reactions by law enforcement to any perceived threat. All you can do is make the choice to carry or not and forge ahead as best you can. It isn't hard to communicate to the officer that you are hearing impaired and carrying. Just ask him to look at you when he speaks so you can understand. If he can see your hands hopefully this won't be a problem. |

Here in TN, carry permit holders are treated with respect as far as I know. I've had my carry permit since 2008 and I've never had a problem or heard of anyone having a problem with cops here in Tennessee. If you live in a state like CA, IL, or NY... God help you. "God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 |

A holder is known to be a follower of the law in good standing. The Popo have always treated me with the same respect I show them. I am skeptical of the stories of police abusing card holders. Sounds like bullshit to me. Last Edited by Apocalypse Troll on 01/10/2013 01:13 PM "Honor the Texas flag; I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one state under God, one and indivisible." Of course there are certainly douchebags everywhere. Know your rights, be respectful. That should be sufficient for all but the douchebags. I have had zero bad experiences where I live. Your mileage may vary. |

I got pulled over coming home from the range once. (I forgot to register my car.) The cop had to see my range bag in the back seat. He said nothing and let me go and just said to get my registration that day. I have a friend who is a retired cop. He got stopped in New jersey once and the Jersey cop wanted to arrest him because he had his gun with him. He has a permit good for all 50 states. When the cop called in to see what he should do. his boss told him to let my friend go and apologize to him. So it realy depends where you are and who stops you. |

Quoting: He Who Walks The Line NEVER FORGET...TO BE AFRAID. /sarcasm If anyone engages in violence or kidnapping against you when you have broken no laws then THEY are the aggressor and law breaker. In such a case it is your duty and moral obligation(IMO) to resist them, up to and including deadly force. Overstand, this isn't a sermon from the hill, but a 'Trespassers Will Be Shot' Sign. |

I simply said.. not telling an officer who has pulled you over, that you have a weapon in car, can result in a very bad day for you. I don't know about you, but if I don't have anything to hide, I certainly do not mind telling the officer that I have a weapon in my vehicle, because if by some chance he searches the vehicle and finds said weapon and you did not tell him you had it before hand, your ass is going to jail. |

God help you. I'm in OH and you couldn't be more right about depends on which city. Most local traveling I do is in a city (suburb of Cleveland) known for a few problem cops in this regard. Also, in OH you do have to inform them if you are carrying. They know you have a permit when they run your plate. Not necessary if you're not carrying, but I would tell them in that case too. |

He had to hire a lawyer and go to court over it. His lawyer won the case.... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28870983 Yep... I've heard Thieveland is the worst in this regard. Go figure that's where you're most likely to need it. |

Quoting: Crash Landed On Earth The reason I brought that up was I had a rather terrifying experience several yrs ago due to this very thing. Had to park a ways down the street from a friends house and was walking to his house. Further down the street the cops had pulled someone over who ran. (found this out later) A cruiser was driving straight at me and a cop was screaming something at me. I just froze in the middle of the street with my hands open palms facing them absolutely confused. 4 or 5 of them piled out of this car and gang tackled, cuffed me, and slammed my face into the hood of the cruiser. Things were quickly straightened out, but they acted like it was no big deal. I thought I was gonna be shot, wasn't fun. Just a little background on that. Thanks for your input : ) |
