Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28688560 wheat* You could try some of the wheat and gluten-free breads which are made to emulate the taste and texture of wheat bread. They are mainly potato and tapioca flour and they taste OK. Quite expensive though and they kind of defeat the purpose. Wheat products act like opiates on certain centers of the human brain so they are literally addicting. You wanna go make a sandwich? By all means do so, as is your right as a free-thinking inhabitant of planet Earth, but ask yourself whether you really want one or whether you NEED one? The answer may surprise you. I've been caught by wheat addiction in the past and I can honestly say that it's easier to quit smoking. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1497332 United States 01/10/2013 09:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Another good post today Op! You are on a roll. Quoting: Crash Landed On Earth My youngest child, fourteen yrs. old, became very sick with chronic abdominal pain over the past summer. We spent thousands of dollars on tests and nothing diagnosed the problem. It's so frustrating and heart breaking to see your own children in constant pain. It was finally suggested by my daughter herself that she might be gluten (wheat, barley and rye) intolerant, since we have several aunts and uncles who had been diagnosed with Celiac's disease (the genetic condition for gluten allergy). Sure enough, when we removed all gluten from her diet, she miraculously recovered. Just unbelievable. Since then, our entire household has become almost all gluten free. We feel so much better for eating this way. An EASY tip for going gluten free... anyone can go to this website [link to www.gfoverflow.com] and type in any product or brand... try searching "ice cream"... it will give you every brand name of that product that is gluten free on the market. You can do it for pasta, crackers, cereals, breads, all the things that usually have gluten. Also very helpful for frozen items... like finding most ore-ida french fries are gluten free. I have begun to also stock gluten free items in our long term food preps. The gfoverflow.com site is helpful for finding things like GF chicken and beef buoillon. Hope you find this helpful. And for anyone out there who thinks gluten free would be too hard to do: Klondike Bars - including Rocky Road flavor - are gluten free. ;) good info Please be aware, a Gluten Allergy is NOT the same as a Wheat Allergy. I am Allergic to Wheat, not Gluten. |

They want you to stop eating wheat so you will switch to corn. FACT: A type of genetically modified corn has just been perfected that will make you sterile. Permanently. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1082682 iv'e heard of it! This is why I keep telling people to just ditch grains entirely, it's really not that difficult. I live on a VERY low budget and eat extremely well. Would like to read more. Please share a few meal menus. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 31634499 United Kingdom 01/11/2013 01:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i wonder if it is wheat that is causing my scalp to have sores and flaky skin around the middle of my scalp. bread does smell sooo good when it's being naked Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31634499 I have the same problem. Had the same sores in the same spots for 4-5 years now. So many doctors, so many treatments, and no relief... I stopped eating white bread. Seemed to help a little bit. Now I'm being told I can't eat white bread? Just what kind of bread CAN I EAT? You may want to try bread made with Spelt flour, the original flour that dates back to cave man. I have a local shop that makes bread with Spelt flour and it's so delicious, I've eaten a whole loaf straight off as it was warm too, that with butter and a lump of cheese - better than anything. Yea, my sores have been around for five or so years, because I pick them they won't heal - so I'm assuming the combination of being insulin diabetic for over 36yrs and perhaps wheat intolerant, may be the cause of my sores on the head. |

Quoting: Saddletramp What you are eating is not wheat... You are eating a genetically modified organism that appears to be wheat... Round-Up Ready Wheat is NOT WHEAT!!! The real culprit, where we should really focus our energies, is ALL GMO PRODUCTS!!! Demand GMO labeling in your State today! The market can move this, but we have to focus on the real problem... Indeed! If it's Round-up ready, imagine what it potentially can do to your gut flora... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 19510487 United States 01/11/2013 02:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We are wheat-free (not to be confused with gluten free). We do eat spelt though. Should I be concerned with organic spelt or is it a 'good grain'? Quoting: ExoPoliChick For those of you thinking of going gluten-free, be careful about the additives they put in gluten-free bread and bread mixes. Xanthan gum, guar gum, maltodextrin, etc. should be avoided in my opinion. Most of the gluten free flours, like Bob's Red Mill [link to www.bobsredmill.com] need the additives added... as something to bind them together in place of the gluten. As an alternative to guar or xantham gum, we have used unflavored gelatin and it substitutes wonderfully. Yup, works well and ordered it in bulk from Amazon. |

Ok Bob's Red Mill claims to grow from non-GMO seed, but there is no third party certification to substantiate this. Which is why I don't buy their grains...most especially their cornmeal. [link to www.bobsredmill.com] There is another company on Amazon -- I ordered 25lbs -- makes great cornbread. |

Even the tomatoes you grow are either watered with rain from polluted air or If you use a well the ground water is polluted with one thing or another. Same thing with the animals. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 989322 True, but that doesn't mean we should eat foods that are worse for you if other, healthier alternatives are available. Grains in general are not a good food source. Most fruit and veggies are pretty ok unless you add un-natural sweeteners or spices. For me everything wheat tastes horrible and makes sick. |

I'm off wheat and the amount of energy I have is phenomenal. Almost miraculouse since I was eating wheat all my life till I realized it caused me hell on earth. IBS, fatique, anaemia, constant shock syndrome, dementia, irritsbilty(cause of constipation),constipation and gas. Now I'm regular, thinner, energetic, better complection, the list goes on. |
