Re: ME TEL U NOW PHROPHECY UNCONFIRMED 2 SUPERNOVA EXPLOSIONS JAN 9TH
Isn't this rehashing one post from 2007-8?
I feel like I remember this OP from back then.

Anyway, give me a timeline spanning 50 years and I'll tell you that the chances of something meaningful happening on may 15th are very high.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31835807

He's gotta timeline of about 10-15 years I think, and really refers to only the last 6-8 even possibly with most of his predictions because only just recently is bush sr sick, thatchers stroke, mandelas hospitilization, obama accident before obamas time

Wow, way to miss the point. No, that is not "prophecy confirmed" that's "prophecy is a giant fucking fail despite it being a routine occurance!" SUPERNOVAE ARE DISCOVERED ALL THE TIME, DAY IN, DAY OUT! If anything it'd be slightly more unsual for there NOT to be at least one supernova discovered on any given day. In 2011 for example there were 888 supernovae discovered. That's what, slightly more than 2 per day on average? So he "predicted" an average day and thus far it's still a fucking fail.

Who's to say he meant supernova? Maybe he literally meant we would witness them explode? Black & white and way too serious for a phrophecy thread bro.
 Quoting: aliensbro

Holy shit, do you even know what the word supernova means?! THAT'S WHAT A SUPERNOVA IS! YOU YOURSELF TRIED TO USE OLD SUPERNOVAE AS CONFIRMATION!
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

Explode in real time astro not view the remnants of something that happened lightyears away. jesus christ go to the store and buy a box of crayolas and color in your black and white world.
 Quoting: aliensbro

"on 9 january yor astronomers cee 2 star xplode"
What part of that do you not understand? There are no reports of any astronomers seeing "2 stars xplode" yesterday (despite 2 per day being about the average), that is what a supernova IS! Are you really this dense? The new supernova discoveries I listed are not fucking remnants, it's the discovery and sight of the explosion itself! For pete's sake, do some research before you dismiss what it is I'm telling you!

Your telling me from the point an object explodes it maintains the same visual structure from start to finish? Black and white.

Setting aside the fact that no new supernovas have yet been reported for Jan. 9th, do you have any idea how common it is? They're CONSTANTLY finding new ones, often multiple per day! It's not unusual at all, it's a bullshit "prediction" of the normal state of things and even then it hasn't even come true yet!
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

I can accept that. But normally new found supernovae aren't reported in the news, unless they're special. Both seem to be.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31686426

Neither of the ones mentioned were discovered in 2013, let alone on January 9th.
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

But only now the press reports it.
Also, technically astroonomers are seeing the stars explode. Seein doesn't equal discovering.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31686426

They didn't look at these supernovae on January 9th, the explosion itself is long done. Supernovae are very transient events (though they do leave behind remnants that are seen long after which the OP seems to think I was talking about, I wasn't). It's when they discover new ones that they're actually seeing stars explode, and that DOES happen ALL the time!

Fuck I could go get an astronomer and show him the pictures we posted earlier of the supernova, and technically that would make the phrophecy come true, thats not the point though is it

Do you know how many new supernovas are seen and discovered on an average day? SN 2009ip isn't new either.
[link to www.rochesterastronomy.org]
Image Credit Date Mag Filter Comments
CHASE 2009/08/26.11 17.9 C Discovery
Nor is SN SCP-0401
[link to www.eurekalert.org]
"Supernova SCP-0401, nicknamed “Mingus,” was collected by the Hubble Space Telescope in 2004"

No supernovas have been reported for January 9th yet, but they probably will be considering that's usually one found nearly every day and often multiple per day.
[link to www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu]
It takes a few days for each discovery to be verified. As of yet though there are no reports of supernovae discovered on January 9th awaiting confirmation.
[link to www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu]
Latest potential discovery was on January 8th.
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

Yay my favorite debunker is here. hf

Few things to note:
SN 2009ip was only known as a Supernova imposter until very recently.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31686426

You know what 2009 means? It was found in 2009. Not January 9th, 2013.
Also you should have pasted the full quote about SN SCP-0401:
Supernova SCP-0401, nicknamed “Mingus,” was collected by the Hubble Space Telescope in 2004 but could not be positively identified until after the installation of a new camera that serendipitously acquired more data.
 Quoting: AC

You're reaching, really really reaching. Worse, it wasn't seen on January 9th:
[link to www.stsci.edu]
It was seen prior to that and the story is just now being published.
So basically, both supernovae are new, as in not verified as supernova before.
 Quoting: AC

They're not new, both were suspected discoveries and were seen long before now, the claim was that they would be seen specifically on January 9th.
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

I know what you mean. But consider this: This (supposed) entity obviously is not an astronomer, doesn't even speak proper english. I think errors in translation are very likely.

Two different supernovae in MSM are odd.

And don't belittle us please, ofcourse i read that SN2009ip was discovered in '09. Also found this link on your link about the SN:
[link to arxiv.org]
Not sure about the duration of such an event, guess it takes several months/up to years?

Concluding words: Think out of the box and don't put every word on the gold scale. cool2

 Quoting: aliensbro

It's straightforward, "on 9 january yor astronomers cee 2 star xplode." Nowhere in there does it say when the star physically exploded, it's about when you see it. It's self-explanatory and you still don't even understand the conditions of the claim. It doesn't matter if it's right next to you or a million light years away or more. You're desperately trying to re-define the plain simple meaning of the claim because it's a miserable failure. Even an idiot could figure out that it simply means actually seeing a star explode, which is exactly what happens when a new supernova is found.

They exploded years ago, they're not still exploding. If you looked at them now all you'd see, at best, is a remnant. Dozens of such remnants are seen by astronomers every night, at least. Can't have it both ways.
Also, lots of astronomers are seeing them in newspapers/TV/internet. tounge
 Quoting: AC

Again, severe confirmation bias trying to change the plain simple meaning of the claim post-facto. And in that case, hundreds were seen in various images online by astronomers yesterday, not 2.

Incredible claims require incredible proof. This claim was very specific and straightforward, stop trying to twist it because it's stupid.

Think shockwave instead of sonicboom. Sound the trumpets.

Re: ME TEL U NOW PHROPHECY UNCONFIRMED 2 SUPERNOVA EXPLOSIONS JAN 9TH
They didn't look at these supernovae on January 9th, the explosion itself is long done. Supernovae are very transient events (though they do leave behind remnants that are seen long after which the OP seems to think I was talking about, I wasn't). It's when they discover new ones that they're actually seeing stars explode, and that DOES happen ALL the time!
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

Ha alright, answered my question about the duration of such an event there.
I'd have never thought that stars explode so frequently. tounge
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31686426

They do. All the time. The universe is very big. Duration depends on the supernova type. Type II are the classical kind where the star actually explodes and forms either a neutron star/pular/or black hole. The explosion itself takes just seconds, but the light from it can take days to diminish (the rate depends on sub-type as well). The other common type, Ia, are due to accretion on a white dwarf and are also very fast events and have even sharper peak luminosities.

Astro didn't you say there WAS a potential discovery on the 8th?
 Quoting: aliensbro

Yes, so what? The claim was that there would be 2 on the 9th, which would be an average day, but even that is a fail. That should tell you that it's complete bullshit, but for some reason you still don't get it.

Re: ME TEL U NOW PHROPHECY UNCONFIRMED 2 SUPERNOVA EXPLOSIONS JAN 9TH
Going off of this he could mean anything by that. From witnessing the explosion of a star right next to you, to a supernova lightyears away.

 Quoting: Dr. Astro

No your reaching for things that aren't said in the phrophecy. It literally says they cee 2 star xplode, and nothing more. And I guarantee atleast 2 astronomers saw 2 stars explode today
 Quoting: aliensbro

Nope, you don't get to have it both ways. Either it literally means seeing 2 stars explode for real, which would mean 2 new supernovae discoveries which would not be unusual at all, or it means seeing pictures of 2 supernovae, in which case it's wrong AND meaningless since hundreds are seen by astronomers every single fucking day, not "2."

...

But yeah, no time to panic yet, unless Mandela or Bush Sr. or Thatcher or someone else mentioned in the original thread dies.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31686426

Well, they are all pretty old and frail ... so chances are actually not out of the realm of possibility.
