NRA seemed to me to have dropped the ball the last time there was a big push. The mantra by the propamedia then was "semi-automatic weapons".

Always felt that the NRA as a whole and LaPierre in particular lost a great opportunity to educate the public while the spotlight was shining their way.

LaPierre in particular seemed to give off a controlled opposition vibe.

The mini 14 is an old gun and been around for a long time. I know several people with them and geez they have been in production for 40 years now suddenly no more because of this crap ??

My 90YO dad has one and hunts with it all the time.
Loves it its light, and takes a decently large mag for culling hogs.

I think we ought to invent a time machine and send all of Washington into the thick of it in WW1, WW2 and Soviet Russia so they will understand why citizens owning guns are needed.

How about the M1 garands in Korea. There are 250k NOS rifles in crates in S Korea and O wont let them into the country. Now they will be super banned from entry. These NOS would go 99% to collectors for roughly 2.5k each. Thats 625 mil.

If I were one of them, wanting to ban all "cool" guns or most of them but not knowing wtf I was doing, I would put out something preliminary, then lurk on sites like this as informed folks discussed the loopholes and workarounds, then that would give me a start on tightening up the text.
