Jesus Christ existed

An Essene, Yeshu or Joshu, who lived 100 B.C. is one of the composites of the Savior of Mankind Jesus that was invented much later by the Roman Catholic Church. It is a simple matter to take the story and teachings of one person and move it to another century which matches that of the very well known and made-into-a god-after-his-death Apollonius of Tyana, who can then be incorporated with the story of the earlier Joshu and make a very nice new but vaguely comforting and familiar man-god for the new Universal/Catholic religion created by the Romans to unite their Empire under one God one Church.

There is no real evidence that Jesus existed other than anecdotal. There are no contemporary records that mention him.

There is no more evidence to suppose that Jesus was real than there is for Robin Hood, King Arthur, Lancelot, Achilles or Brutus of Troy.

What I would like to know is if Lincoln existed... or Plato.. or George Washington, or .. or


You can use the same arguements for anyone not activly living. You can also use the same methods to prove they were alive, and the case for Jesus is pretty conclusive, not even taking into account the bible.

While this may be so, it doesn't explain the reports of a Jesus guy in India during his early adulthood, nor the reports of jesus surviving the crucifixion somehow and heading back to india with his mother, who apparently died along the way on the Silk Road somewhere in what's now known as Pakistan (where they used to have a tomb the locals all said was her, but that got destroyed in one of the big wars for some reason or other, hint hint)

We know Lincoln, Plato and George Washington existed because we have contemporary documentation and records not only referring to them, but written by them.

There are no such records of Jesus. Anything that mentions the name was written some time after his death.

Even his crucifixion wasn't recorded by contemporary historians or commentators. You'd think the execution of such magnitude would have caught the attention of at least one of the most prominent writers of the time: Pliny the younger, Strabo or Seneca - these three are some of history's most prolific historians yet they never make any mention of Jesus. They make mention of Christians, but not Jesus.

Not even Pontius Pilate wrote about him by name (the famous letter to Tiberius has been widely discredited).

Can a 'contemporary record' talk about someone 2,000 years ago? If you dont like the Bible, check what Josephus and Tacitus said. Theres a difference between recorded history and mythology.

And if you want to ignore Josephus and Tacitus, see if the Jews kept any record of Jesus, his death and burial. The burial is especially important, because even the Jews recorded the place of the tomb and Joseph of Arimathea facilitating this. Ask yourself why the Jews would record anything regarding Jesus...
