Nice thread OP.

Don't get mama bear too mad, she may defend the cubs.

I like to think that I have carved out a preserve of know-how, in the domestic area and in the knowledge of how to make do.
My ancestors were the most enslaved people on earth - the Slavs.
That is where most languages got the word "slave."

Make use of what grows around you. A mango or pineapple is not healthier than an apple or plum. Your body is adapted to the food that grows where you and your family has lived.

When you plant a tree, place a dead bird in the hole you dug for the tree. It will nourish growth.

Your nails - when you cut them, also go into the soil. (Folkways confirmed by science - nails contain keratin, a nitrogen source, I believe)

My Slavic grandfather grew food for all during the Depression. He healed the eyes of steelworkers in Youngstown, Ohio with a braid of horsehair. which he used to gently remove steel dust and fragments from his fellow steelworkers eyes,
since the heat and dust of the steel mill hurt the workers'
eyes all the time. No OSHA then.!

And we women keep folkways alive.

When I hear the phrase "old wives' tale" it usually is true!

wow, so interesting.. I would love to hear more about your folks (and yours) wisdom. I love learning the real ways.
