Find any real old country farming community, if you even can. One that has no outside utilities coming in. You'll find the women toiling just as hard as the men. You'll see both work the fields all day, trading off on roles based on whoever isn't doing something else. And then the elderly generally take care of the children when they can no longer provide labor.
