I have been unemployed since October!! I can't find a job! I am kneck high in student loans and the government is even garnishing my income taxes because of it! My wife and her family think I'm a loser and I'm scared I won't be able to provide!! This planet is fucked!!!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16773023

Fuck them. All of them, as this too shall pass. When I lost my job, I contacted my creditors and informed them that they would be getting what I could afford, and while I had no intention of filing BK, I would if they wanted to play hardball.

They worked with me, and all is good today. I started my own company during that time as well, and while challenging and scary at first - it was the best thing I ever did.

I'm 25, unmarried with no kids. Sounds like you have a hell of an opportunity there for the OP to bring in some Man money. If he doesn't want to take you up on that offer, I live in Texas, will pass background/drug checks, and am willing to relocate.
I'm going out on a limb and assuming you were sincere in your offer, and the OP doesnt realize it.
 Quoting: SteveWutabi

Friend, I am

I will post a thread soon with job offers in my region and a few others like Wyoming, Oklahoma and North Dakota

I like to see people working. It makes them feel better about themselves, and then you have a ripple effect that works its way through the country

If I were 25, I would be in one of the oil patch towns faster than you can see "boo".

The Canadians on this thread can support me on this, because they've seen what happened in Alberta, where guys started making 6 figures if they were willing to spend some time up in Ft McMurry

I won't post doom and gloom here, that's not my style, but I will post things that are helpful, as I find them

but some relocation may be necessary, and that should not be a problem for someone with desire. Our forefather's risked a dangerous trip across an ocean, some risked miles by wagon deep into hostile territories where they had no protection, no infrastructure. They had to say goodbye forever to family and friends, and mail took a long time to be delivered

We come from tough stock.

Compared to what they had to endure to create a better life for their children, a move by u-haul on an interstate highway, to a state with all the comforts of home, is little by comparison

Good luck to you, sounds like you have the right attitude

Don't give up.....sending you much love...the person who wrote to look for "work" instead of a "job" right now gave good advice. I hope you find something soon and take care! Never give up!

Exactly right, those guys are bulllies and will intimidate who they can, but they are in reality terrified that millions of people will walk away from their bills.

When you take it in hand and inform them of what you can and cannot do, you show yourself to be someone in charge of your own situation, and believe it or not, you rank higher than someone who just walks away.

And good for you for starting your own business. You may work longer hours and have more risk, but you and only you determine how much you will be paid. You ssay goodbye to the trauma of working into work one morning and being walked out for no reason other than the management consultants decided everyone with more than 10 years seniority has to go

I am a very smart and college educated man!! I can't even get a job at AMPM because I'm over qualified!!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16773023

You weren't too smart to let AMPM know about your college education, LOL. And the initial k in kneck is invisible when we type it, so "neck".

Calm down. Your college degree didn't bring recruiters to your inbox so forget about it. The paper won't help you. A smart man knows that. If you got a decent education, then you know a little about the world and the times. Figure out how to find a job.

HINT. Be up and dressed as you would want to be seen by the employer of your dreams, every single morning. Get OUT of the house. No excuses. Lounging at home will make you feel like a loser, encourage the family to see you as a loser, and turn you into a loser. Being up and dressed even if your big excitement is taking your coffee in a new place daily to send resumes will help you.

I got a great job from a chance meeting in a blues bar. Actually, I was hired to cover my boss as she wept with hangover and mental illness until well after noon, but it paid great and imagine who would have hired me had I been having coffee at 5 am instead of gin at midnight?

Have your coffee where rich people live and work and don't be an ass. Its amazing how the familiarity of seeing the same face daily creates fondness or friendliness. People who see you dressed and clean daily can imagine you at their workplace.

Funny. I can run 5 minute miles all day and I'd slap your ugly mug and you wouldn't do shit about it.

Still waiting on the Op. obviously doesn't REALLY want a job.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31930936

I'm not calling BS to your job but I am calling BS to your 5 minute mile. If you started your job at 18 then you would be a minimum of 33. When I was 21 I was running a mile at 4:20. Twelve years past that is an impossibility even for world class athletes. 5:59 maybe but definitely not 5:09.

Never brag when it's the impossible!

That is your problem. People won't even hire you for an $8 an hour job because you are over qualified. You are in a bad situation. My husband has been going thru the same. He applies for every and any position, 7-11 won't hire an over qualified person cause they are afraid the person will leave if something better comes along.

I volunteered in a credit union for about a year while applying for different jobs.

When I applied for bottom-rung jobs I lied and provided no details of my qualifications.

When I applied for better jobs I included everything I thought appropriate, up to and including my physics degree.

I eventually got a job a a large firm, 6000+ employees, in their accounts dept. My volunteering at credit union played a large part in getting the job.

I just wanna work PT really. And study the rest so I can prepare for and start an Open Uni. Maths Masters. Can't complain if I have a FT well paying job with possibilities though.

KEEP AT IT OP. And TAILOR you apps and CV to the job. I did some shitty temp stuff while looking for the better job I now have. Just by lying basically.

You gotta lie man!

Exactly.

Why do you have to work for someone else?

Surely a "very smart and educated man" can quickly realize that he doesn't need to depend on others to get ahead. Get your hands dirty and work towards a lifestyle, not a career.

Step 1: Move out of California, the state is financial fucked on every level.

Step 2: Notice while you try around there are "Now Hiring" signs posted everywhere; that's something hardly ever seen in California.

Step 3: Remember how backwards California has become and never forget it, never return to it.

Step 4: Enjoy your newly found job.

I moved out of California to Ohio, after searching for work for over 8 months. Graduated with a B.S. in Molecular & Cell Biology with a pretty solid GPA. Never got an interview, not so much as even a call back from a prospective employer. Three days after moving to Ohio I had 4 job interviews, three of which, offered me the job paying MORE than the advertised rate in California.

So yeah...

Re: I can't find a job, I feel like a loser!! :(
OP, try thinking outside the box.

You say you are smart.

Can you file taxes? Be A property manager, a loan processor, a Massage Therapist, nurse's assistant, web design?

What I'm saying is, can you get some kind of short training and get a license for something that is very high in demand, and you can get by for a while, and keep looking until you find the job that you studied for and would want.

There are many in your situation.

I was laid off my job of 12 years and my degree didn't get me slack, so I quickly went to a school for facials and now I have tons of work and have the hours I want, and I'm still available to work for the job I want but since I haven;t found it, I continue to do facials, but you know, I actually love what I do right now and I'm much happier.

Not to say that you will find something else that you will love, but what I am saying is that in this economy, you HAVE to think outside the box and take charge of your life this way.

Make it happen rather than wait for it to happen to you.

Amerika is suddenly having to wake up to how tough the real world is when a reserve currency (that was backed by easy oil) collapses.

Vast amounts of money (debt) spent on a very mediocre education was / is never likely to be re-paid, when currency arbitrage shifts manufacturing jobs (old and new) to far cheaper, better educated, harder working labor overseas. Especially to an old adversary countries that switch from a belligerent war to an economic war.

People thought that FEMA Camps were secret prisons to keep people in, when in fact they have been designed as holding camps for those people with nowhere else to go.

Until China's economy collapses - after Amerika spends it's last dimes on (cheap) Chinese shit, the 1%ers can standardise wages, to restore the natural order of feudalism.

O/P welcome to the brave new world. You will not be alone for long in your plight. There will soon be 300,000,000 Amerikans in a similar position!

Sucks don't it! In the mean time learn valuable skills and start "networking". Personal recommendation is the quickest way to get a half decent job. Join a church and start making friends with everyone!

Play middle man like I do. I make a complete fucking killing and don't touch any of the actual work. I set up deals and outsource everything to people who actually know what they're doing.

Take web design for example:

Go on craigslist

Find someone looking to have a website designed for say $500 and ask them what exactly they're looking to get done.

Make a post on a web design forum saying "I'll pay $250 to do the following"

Profit.

It works brilliantly for almost everything. I've done everything from TV commercials to small construction jobs and internet marketing.
