Fuck them. All of them, as this too shall pass. When I lost my job, I contacted my creditors and informed them that they would be getting what I could afford, and while I had no intention of filing BK, I would if they wanted to play hardball.

They worked with me, and all is good today. I started my own company during that time as well, and while challenging and scary at first - it was the best thing I ever did.

HINT. Be up and dressed as you would want to be seen by the employer of your dreams, every single morning. Get OUT of the house. No excuses. Lounging at home will make you feel like a loser, encourage the family to see you as a loser, and turn you into a loser. Being up and dressed even if your big excitement is taking your coffee in a new place daily to send resumes will help you.

I got a great job from a chance meeting in a blues bar. Actually, I was hired to cover my boss as she wept with hangover and mental illness until well after noon, but it paid great and imagine who would have hired me had I been having coffee at 5 am instead of gin at midnight?

Have your coffee where rich people live and work and don't be an ass. Its amazing how the familiarity of seeing the same face daily creates fondness or friendliness. People who see you dressed and clean daily can imagine you at their workplace.

I'm not calling BS to your job but I am calling BS to your 5 minute mile. If you started your job at 18 then you would be a minimum of 33. When I was 21 I was running a mile at 4:20. Twelve years past that is an impossibility even for world class athletes. 5:59 maybe but definitely not 5:09.

I took a risk and purchased equipment I couldn't afford at that time, it paid off, I am successfully a self employed private contractor for seven years now. I couldn't even imagine ever being employed again or looking for a job,that would suck.

He applies for every and any position, 7-11 won't hire an over qualified person cause they are afraid the person will leave if something better comes along.

I volunteered in a credit union for about a year while applying for different jobs.

When I applied for bottom-rung jobs I lied and provided no details of my qualifications.

When I applied for better jobs I included everything I thought appropriate, up to and including my physics degree.

I eventually got a job a a large firm, 6000+ employees, in their accounts dept. My volunteering at credit union played a large part in getting the job.

I just wanna work PT really. And study the rest so I can prepare for and start an Open Uni. Maths Masters. Can't complain if I have a FT well paying job with possibilities though.

As much as I disagree with it, you could join the military. Won't lose your family, maybe your life. But your in laws wouldn't think you're a loser. But a bunch of us would think you're a loser for joining the military, so choose your poison I guess.

I moved out of California to Ohio, after searching for work for over 8 months. Graduated with a B.S. in Molecular & Cell Biology with a pretty solid GPA. Never got an interview, not so much as even a call back from a prospective employer. Three days after moving to Ohio I had 4 job interviews, three of which, offered me the job paying MORE than the advertised rate in California.

Can you file taxes? Be A property manager, a loan processor, a Massage Therapist, nurse's assistant, web design?

What I'm saying is, can you get some kind of short training and get a license for something that is very high in demand, and you can get by for a while, and keep looking until you find the job that you studied for and would want.

There are many in your situation.

I was laid off my job of 12 years and my degree didn't get me slack, so I quickly went to a school for facials and now I have tons of work and have the hours I want, and I'm still available to work for the job I want but since I haven;t found it, I continue to do facials, but you know, I actually love what I do right now and I'm much happier.

Not to say that you will find something else that you will love, but what I am saying is that in this economy, you HAVE to think outside the box and take charge of your life this way.

Make it happen rather than wait for it to happen to you.

Play middle man like I do. I make a complete fucking killing and don't touch any of the actual work. I set up deals and outsource everything to people who actually know what they're doing.

Take web design for example:

Go on craigslist

Find someone looking to have a website designed for say $500 and ask them what exactly they're looking to get done.

Make a post on a web design forum saying "I'll pay $250 to do the following"

Profit.

It works brilliantly for almost everything. I've done everything from TV commercials to small construction jobs and internet marketing.

Join Facebook..you can play games all day and talk shit and collect your check..what you worried about..do what your neighbours do but be more discreet and look better than them.

Go to real estate school. Become an independent contractor (real estate agent.)

Considering a business must see at least 10% growth per year to keep up with inflation, I don't see that as a great long term plan considering it's a fluctuating market.
