Connecticut state senator introduces bill to restrict gun use/ownership to those containing ONLY ONE ROUND!
That the general statutes be amended to establish a class C felony offense, except for certain military and law enforcement personnel and certain gun clubs, for (1) any person or organization to purchase, sell, donate, transport, possess or use any gun except one made to fire a single round, (2) any person to fire a gun containing more than a single round, (3) any person or organization to receive from another state, territory or country a gun made to fire multiple rounds, or (4) any person or organization to purchase, sell, donate or possess a magazine or clip capable of holding more than one round.

I'm Googling now, I guess they really do! Wow! What would the point of them be versus owning one that holds multiple rounds? As far as I can tell from the quick skim of sites, those would essentially be for sport purposes.

They do make single shot weapons, however, many are actually more dangerous than repeaters.

All that manual chambering of rounds leads to wear and tear on mechanisms. it leads to miss aligned cartriges. it leads to people typically carrying more than one weapon, which leads to a whole new set of accidents. mis-matching ammo. secondary weapon goes off, etc.

They will kill more people with a law like this than leaving it alone.

What would the appeal to owning those types of weapons be? Are they mostly collectibles...for sporting? I don't see why someone would purchase it for defense?

They are used mostly for hunting.
Encore is one particular rifle.
Contender is a single shot pistol.

Lord they want to go back to the early 1800's before the "Repeaters". Even the Yellowboy 44 would be illegal.

I never have cared for single shots myself, but some people like them. I think a better draconian law would be 2 shots, then you could include side by sides, derringers etc.

A single shot anything is useless for home defense except for intimidation.

There was a movie where Lance Henrickson played a bad guy. Seems like it was set in the south. He only used a Thompson contender single shot. The entire movie he walks around flipping the barrel down and chambering another round, the entire time you are just waiting for him to get shot by a cop.

Not useless. I think one use is for young hunters as single shots are seen as safer.

Also all you should need in theory is a single shot for normal hunting if you are doing your part.

If you need more than one shot for say deer, all the time, you are doing something wrong. If you are culling Hogs in Texas - LOL, then you need a multiple 30 round magazines.

You say deer, but aren't there people that hunt bear and other large animals for food that may need more than one bullet? Seems there would be a safety aspect of the hunter if they aren't a good shot, they would need more than one in order to stop something that may be large...as well as a humane aspect if they only manage to wound and not kill. I guess the key here is that you're speaking "in theory", but we all know that real life doesn't usually turn out that way.

Like I said though, I don't know anything about hunting or guns, I have yet to even fire one, so I could be wrong.

Some of the sporting reasons have already been mentioned. For youth hunters (and oldsters like me) weight is a factor. single shot weapons are much lighter to carry. with upland game (rabbits, squirells, deer) you are typically going to get one shot, they any other critters will flee. as mentioned by others if you are doing your job right: you retrieve the animal and continue hunting.

The bird hunting world is what drove huge calibers (8 gauge shotguns, they called them punt guns) and repeating. You need to down as many as possible in one shot because they can and will fly miles away.

One shot is sort of the Hunters goal.

There are times when you need more than one like in Africa or Alaska or hunting dangerous game etc, but typically more than not, one shot is enough if you know what you are doing for normal game.

When it comes to self preservation from dangerous game then its a different story. That said one of the most dangerous animals in Africa is an Elephant and professionals still prefer the double rifle. Think I read that you could reload it and shoot up to 4 shots as fast as a bolt action.

Hogs are dangerous and much more so than most people realize. 6 million of them now in teh US and they double every 5 years. If you do the math there will be more Hogs than people in the USA in about 30 years if they keep it up.

They are destructive, nasty, disease spreading, aggressive, massive rats with giant teeth and they eat anything. For those you definitely need more than one shot plus a pistol as a backup.

True some hunters are not good shots, but a repeater does not increase their odds of success in reality.

Yes occasionally you might need another round to humanly finish an animal off but you can always crack the breech and drop in another round.

Some animals just dont drop, but the majority of good hunters, guessing 90% of the time get 1 shot kills.

I am not a supporter of what CT is proposing and think this gun ban shit is just that. Just saying about the realities of hunting.

More seriously, single-round bolt-action rifles can be used for hunting or SNIPING, either of which are offense & not defensive. Does this tard really want to turn all gun owners into snipers?

Many reasons

they are great hunting fireams in the hands of a hunter
and often you can tinker with the loads to get something more suitable to what you are hunting or where you are hunting.for example low velocity rifle ammo or inserts
to fire a rifle cartridge out of a shotgun.

As far as defense I would not feel to bad with a single shot
shotgun they are actually very fast to reload anyway.

I like single shot but its still a very stupid law
