This is Lisa*Lisa's mother and after viewing this video I cried too because Lisa puts all these things into practice.She is a kind, extremely thoughtful and caring daughter. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have her as a daughter. I've been very blessed.

My dad was the one to come out at 2 am and it outside a night club to bring me and friends home safe , when I eventually settled down and got a house/had a child he always came round and done all my jobs , my ex husband was a useless git , but my dad didn;t have an opinion on him he just made sure I was OK and any DIY jobs were always done , he built up flat pack furniture , moved my furniture when I moved house , there;s no end to what he done.....

He got cancer 2 years ago and although he is still here he also ended up with COPD , he still wants to do certain jobs for me though , I m a single parent but I can do quite a lot as I ve always had him around showing me what to do.....the other day he tightened up my toilet roll holder and he was very breathless after....I still ask him to do stuff cos if he thought he was useless after all these years of doing so much I think he would just want to sit and die....

I used to work with old folk and remember one man saying to me...."Old age isn't for wimps".....

Sorry but I couldn't get through this. The music was overbearing and the sentiments were cheap.

Look, we will get from our children exactly what we gave to them when they were small. If we were loving and patient, they will be with us. If we were harsh and unforgiving, it will come back to us.

Also, I've known some very mean old people. My dad was one. He was abusive and manipulative to his children. The older he got the worse it got. Sure, getting old SUCKS and he had many problems and sadnesses. But that doesn't excuse abusive behavior. Ironically, when you try to google how to deal with "abusive elder" all you get is articles about elder abuse! Never the other way around, which believe me happens plenty.

Today is my father's 77th birthday.

I was getting ready to go out there to listen to the same stories I have heard many times, do things he can't do for himself and light some candles on a cake for him.

I'm glad I watched this, because sometimes it is so frustrating that I forget to slow down and remember how old he truly is.

That is truly beautiful, Lisa. My Father recently died this past December, and it has caused a lot of heart-ache about how he died and the nature of the family he left behind. This reminds me of him, as it pained me to see my other brothers and sisters lose patience with him before he died. I am thankful that I was able to end on good terms with him, and I know I will see him again soon!

THE WOODEN BOWL

A frail Elder man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and four year old grandson. The Elder man's hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faulted.

The family ate together at the table. But the Elderly Grandfather's shaky hands and failing eyesight made eating difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When he grasped the glass, milk spilled on the tablecloth.

The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess. "We must do something about Grandfather," said the son. I've had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor. So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner. There, Grandfather sat alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner. Since Grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl.

When the family glanced in Grandfather's direction, sometime he had a tear in his eye as he sat alone. Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp and very harsh when he dropped a fork or spilled food.

The four-year-old watched it all in silence. One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with some wood scraps on the floor. He asked the child sweetly, "What are you making?" Just as sweetly, the boy responded, "Oh, I am making little bowls for you and momma to eat your food in when I grow up."

The four-year-old smiled and went back to work. The words so struck the parents so that they were speechless. Then the tears started to stream down their cheeks. Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done.

That evening the husband took Grandfather's hand and gently led him back to the family table. For the remainder of his days he ate every meal with the family. And for some reason, neither husband nor wife seemed to care any longer when a fork dropped, milk was spilled, or a tablecloth soiled.

thank you lisa , it hits home i never really appreciated my parents much i loved them but it wasnt until i had a family of my own and a stack of never ending bills did it truely sink in just how much i love them for all theyve done over the years.

Prooves parents still have to teach children at every age.
