>>>>It's clear that the Malvinas belong to Argentina<<<<

It's clear that Australia belongs to Indonesia. It's just off their coast FFS.

Time for them to pack their bags in Sydney and head off to New Zealand.

Using your logic, it's clear that Canada and Mexico belong to the United States - Canada in particular.

I'm talking about the fact that the place is a drain on British resources. At the moment it relies upon fishing and tourism ( [link to en.wikipedia.org] Even the previous lucrative wool growing industry has been phased down to a minuscule level from what it was previously. Great to see the United Kingdom has a secure and stable supply of fish fingers, but it seriously must cost more to administer and operate the Falklands than any income returned from it. If the Brits aren't going to exploit the offshore oil wealth then what good is the place? It's bad business.

There is no loss of national prestige to the Poms if they sell the islands to the Argentines for a phenomenal fee taking into account all of the potential future income from hydrocarbon exploitation. Argentina would nearly go bankrupt buying the place but if they made oil extraction their first priority then they'd make it all back within a decade.

Falkland Islanders should be given dual UK/Argentine citizenship as part of the agreement and no soldiers need to die over a barren fucking rock in the middle of nowhere.

The place has zero strategic importance to the UK aside from potential threats to other underdeveloped UK possessions in the vicinity such as New Georgia by Argentina. Flog the place off to the Argies and there are zero strategic concerns.

Unless of course our Spanish amigo is correct and it's all just an excuse for the Poms to go to war - any war - by themselves without having to hold onto the shirttails of the US or NATO. The Poms have always loved a bit of Imperialist biffo, but times have changed. No more Imperialist adventures on the high seas, now it's all about resources. If the UK has no interest in exploiting the natural resources in the Malvinas then they are horribly out of touch and living in the past. If shooting up tanned latino folks at extreme southern latitudes is what it takes for the UK to retain some prestige, then who am I to judge?

I do think the Brits wish to exploit the resources, I highly doubt however that the average citizen will see any profit out of that, instead rapacious corporations will devour it all at the cost of the loss of life of soldiers and no return to the general populace. And I do agree that for some Brits it all boils down to asserting themselves and remember old glory days of imperial pride, but the harsh reality is that those days are gone and even something more worrying, British culture might be gone soon too (the good part of it, the average traditions of the average people), and no killing of some poverty stricken mestizos down in shit hole south america will change any of it.

The idiocy of white folks killing each other because of the decrees of their NWO governments. Argentina used to be quite European but then got invaded by their mestizo neighbors and it turned into a commie shithole where marxists buy votes by giving out some food and drinks. Britain on the other hand is well on their way to be invaded by dark Asian hordes.

And yet some folks think that it would be desirable that white nations still fight wars with each other. What a calamity!

Your arguments don't hold water despite how much you think you know about relations between and history of Argentina and the United Kingdom. Maybe if you'd tried harder at school...

"UK Prepares For War With Argentina - Military Build up Likely Ahead of Referendum on Falkland Islands Future".

Please rephrase your title to the UK government and military, because the UK is general and the decision to ignite yet another war has fuck all to do with me, a UK person with no say in any of their anarchical bullshit!

Thanks.

First time around, with some digging, it became apparent that the skirmish was less to do with a few ex-pat sheep farmers, and more to do with oil. I think most agree on that.

But since then, a great deal has happened.

I think it's les about 'normal' oil, and more to do with specialised oil, and less about the islnds themselves, and more to do with coastal limits, and just how close to the Antarctic territories that brings the UK.

This is an Antarctic resource grab in the planning.

There is an amazing 'TV' station on the islands too. A transmitter a wee bit of overkill for such a small population! LOL.

Much more interesting things a foot.

I looked at the Argentine naval and air forces. Not very impressive. The UK won't be too impressive in the air with what they can bring, but their navy, small as it is, is far more advanced. Their new destroyers are as good as any in the world.

It is, just off shore, towards Antarctica, but still within it's teritorial waters.

At the time of the last skirmish, no technologies were in existance to drill for it or remove it. That's all changed now.

But, I dont think its about normal oil or production. The North Sea is much closer to the UK and still has much to give.

It's clear that the Malvinas belong to Argentina - the Islands are just off the Argentine coast FFS. The British only want to hang on to the "Falklands" because there's some oil potential, but still they are doing nothing about it.

What they need to do is sell the Malvinas back to Argentina. That way the Brits get some cash in the kitty and the Argentines can then exploit the oil wealth and put some life back into their economy. The existing inhabitants are automatically granted joint UK/Argentine citizenship and everyone lives happily ever after.

Besides, the Malvinas needs an influx of latin ladies to improve the local genetics - those pasty-faced, frumpy, inbred farmers' wives are an abomination. Just sayin...

Yeah..except britain had settlers on the falklands decades before argentina's conception.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31976082

The UK, France, Spain, Argentina and even the US all have equal claim to the barren subantarctic wasteland known as the Malvinas. Only the UK and Argentina wish to assert it, luckily.

Here's how it all went down...

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

1764-1767: France had a settlement on the Malvinas

1765-1770: Great Britain had a settlement on the Malvinas

1767-1811: Spain had a settlement on the Malvinas

1771-1776: Great Britain again had a settlement on the Malvinas

1811-1829: no one had a settlement on the Malvinas

1829-1831: Revolutionary Argentina (United Provinces) had a settlement on the Malvinas

1831-1832: The United States had a settlement on the Malvinas

1832-1833: Argentine Confederation had a settlement on the Malvinas

1833: The United Kingdom asserts sovereignty over the Malvinas and calls this sovereign British territory the Falkland Islands.

1833-1982: The UK essentially leaves it's settlement in the Malvinas to do its own thing. Aside from local government support from the UK Foreign Office. Around this time Argentina is (again) in a shit state and the head honchos decide that to get some national unity happening they'll go and militarily invade the Malvinas. When the British, so many thousands of miles away, give up without a shot being fired, said Argie head honcho would get masses of street cred and would be crowned el Presidente for life. Unfortunately for el Presidente, the Poms have a dark side, and being a lethal fucking race, would not let such an affront to British national prestige pass unpunished. They put together a naval fleet/troop convoy and steamed for the Malvinas where they proceeded to kick the living fuck out of the Argentine occupation forces and send them home with their tail between their legs.

2013: If the Argentines want to try and take the Malvinas by force - again, they are gonna get fucked in the arse - again.

The Poms should sell the Malvinas to the Argies then everyone's happy.

Actually, Thatcher had a nuclear sub parked off the Argentine coast for a different reason.

As Argie Dictator Galtieri had been close to the Reagan administration, Reagan at first wanted to be neutral and refused to give Thatch the satellite data that she needed.

So Thatch went back to Reagan and said WE WILL NOT LOSE THIS WAR. If we lose by land and sea, we'll start blowing Argie cities off the face of the map one by one, starting with Cordoba.

With the Russians supporting Argieland, Reagan went back urgently to Thatch saying, "You do that and it's World War Three and end of the planet"

Thatcher's response to Reagan? "You're choice Buddy"

Within an hour US satellite data began streaming into the UK's Ministry of Defence.

As a result, as the US could not be trusted as an Ally in a Falkland Crisis, the ssame policy has been maintained ever since.

A nuclear sub is always off the coast and the US has been told that the UK won't reconquer the islands again.

Instead, next time, no more Mr. Nice-Guy.

First Argie soldier to land on the Falklands and BANG! Cordoba gets blown straight into the stratosphere...

...just for starters.

>>>>Cameron would be our weakest link if the Falklands were invaded.<<<<

You are deeply wrong.

No British Prime Minister would ever, ever. EVER wish to look weak. It is utter suicide in Britain. British voters are ruthless f*kkers who EXPECT a British PM to beat the snot out of "foreign Johnies" wherever possible.

Consider the 1930's. One of the most utterly popular Prime Ministers to have ever been elected, a man who everyone thoroughly loved was Neville Chamberalin...until he allowed Hitler to walk all over him and then he was immediately booted.

In the 1950's, Anthony Eden was super-popular as he had some brilliant ideas about solving the housing problem caused by the Germans bombin gout cities. Then Suez Crisis where he lost. He was kicked out to pels of laughter and hatred.

John Major refused to walk the mile and actually bomb the Serbs in Bosnia - he was branded as weak as water and his Conservative Party were chucked out in their worst ever election defeat that took them a generation to recover from.

If Cameron does not take out Cordoba or blitz the Falklands with paratroops, he knows he's screwed and will be out of office in utter ignomy in hours.

Nothing to do with war mongering.

A lot of british citizens see an invasion or attack on the falklands as an attack on GB herself.

British people have nothing against the argentine population, but if the argentine government persists with this bullshit the british people will get pretty indifferent very quickly.

We really wont care if argentinas military bases get bombed or hit with cruise missles.

I'd rather we didnt start firing shit at argentina, but if the falklands are invaded i really wont care as i would pretty much think the argentine administration brought it on themselves.

They are not your islands and never were, the citizens of those islands consider themselves british, and they have been that way for almost two centuries.

A lot of british people are tired of wars in the middle east that have nothing to do with us, please dont give the pissed off neglected british forces and public a war they feel is just.

Hobart is of "no strategic value" - it's just an incinerated dump with zero economy and loads of costly bushfires...

...So, Mr Aussie, why not offer the island of Tasmania to the Argies in place of the Falklands?

Remember, last time the Argies invaded the Falklands, the Argies followed it up about a week later with a troops landing in Antarctica and claiming a vast slab of that as well, INCLUDING a fat slab of Australi's own Antarctic territory.

How can you look back in horror at Neville Chamberlain handing over the "no strategic value" Sudetenland to Adolf Hitler without a shot in 1939, months before the Second World War and yet feel comfortable with handing over the Falklands to the Argies?

HANDING OVER THE FALKLANDS IS APPEASEMENT.

Look, Neville Chamberlain told the world that he would not have British lives lost fighting over "some far away country", so when Hitler demanded the Sudetenland, he happily agreed to his takeover of it in 1939.

It was a policy called APPEASEMENT.

The Argentinians, don't just claim the Falklands - they ALSO claim the whole of ANtarctica, including Australia's Antarctic Territory.

Who do you want to fight a war with the Argies? The Brits over the Falklands? Or the Australian Army when the Argies start running into your weather stations in Antactica and shooting you scientists from Melbourne?

Re: UK Prepares For War With Argentina - Military Build up Likely Ahead of Referendum on Falkland Islands Future.

Argentina doesn't stand a chance, what are they gonna fight with? Wait, let me get my sticks and stones, and the slingshot from my youth, now we're on.

Easy equation.

Malvinas/Falklands = Stepping stone to aquire Antarctica territory.
