People like that would rather not hear a real opinion, they like to make believe the world is a nice place and the police stop crimes before they happen.

They don’t want to screw up there euphoric fake reality they created in their heads as an emotional wall between reality and the real world.

So they run from other opinions they do not want to accept.

People who can't stand a healthy, intense debate without losing their temper and taking things personally provide the ultimate proof of the fallacy of their positions.

Yep, happened to me. She posted one of those memes with some idiot from Australia who was wearing pearls and saying that they solved all their crime problems by banning guns.

I pointed out that violent crimes such as rape skyrocketed and that I didn't want to be a victim. She told me to not be a victim on my own wall and defriended me within seconds.

I used to respect her. Now I'm sad to know that there is a mentally ill freak running around in my community. Anyone who believes that rape is better than gun ownership is sick!!!

I actually know him in person, and we've had debates before so he seems to be into that. I can't understand how people can flip like that all of the sudden, they can't digest the fact that they're wrong so they just withdraw from whoever reminds them of it.

I myself love to stick around to people who break my paradigms.

Well basically then what you did was create a situation where the paradigm / world he lives in his mind would be SMASHED TO BITS if he were to accept your reasoning.
People like him have everything nicely fit into a Matrix type reality....but show them it is a fake reality and their whole world crumbles and they can't allow that pain to occur because their entire lives are based around those lies.
