Anyone who wants that bloodshed to CEASE should assist in making the Truth known as widely as possible. So, to get beyond "self" is to stand outside of fear and desire. The next thing to understand about the "self" is that it considers itself as the source of all that is "good" and the "not self" as the source of all that it "evil". (This is why it is referred to in Genesis as the "tree of the knowledge of good and evil".) This is the fundamental mechanism for the projection of evil and the motivation and 'justification' for violence against anyone that is not similar to us; that is, anyone of a different religion, political philosophy, economic class, race or sex.
