Does anyone else ever wonder if these whackos know something that we don't? I don't understand how in the hell you could get that many people to remain shrouded in secrecy and have such a limitless budget. I went into a Scientology place in Minneapolis and tried to join, didn't have the 200 bucks for their book, and then was told that Scientology has absolutely nothing to do with aliens. It's just fucking weird to me, that's all I'm saying.Idol1

Scientology itself, which is the practice of auditing combined with a collection of various philosophical ideas Hubbard had between the 1930s and 1980s, *doesn't* have much to do with aliens - except for the idea that if humans do have souls, they probably can and have traveled around the Universe.

The real alien stuff started when Hubbard noticed that more and more of the people during past-life regression were telling him outlandish sci-fi stories, and the disturbing thing was that some of them started to match up with one another. Being a sci-fi fan himself, of course, he was intrigued but wisely decided to keep that sort of stuff quiet and only give it to people who were doing the "Operating Thetan" club, which is actually separate from Scientology itself as a philosophy.

Think of it as being the difference between Catholicism and the more private "Opus Dei" club.
