First off, I know nothing about the moon but I'm spooked right now, due to the moon here in louisiana, over the bayou corne sinkhole. It's 6am and the moon is exactly where it should be if it were 6pm. At this rate the moon will be in the middle if the sky at 12 pm. The crescent shape (dare I say smile shape??) is so close that I feel as though I could reach out and touch it. I know I sound foolish (and trust me I questioned rather or not to post) but I feel uncomfortable and was hoping maybe someone had an explanation for why the moon is in this position. Thanks in advance!
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33663319 I'm curious why you think the moon should be in a specific place at 6 pm. The Moon rises and sets about 50 minutes later each day as it progresses through its phases. Always has. In general, the Full Moon rises around 6 pm and sets around 6 am. The third quarter rises around midnight and sets around noon. The new Moon rises around 6 am and sets around 6 pm. and the first quarter rises around Noon and sets around midnight. Exact rise and set times vary based on your location (latitude as well as within your time zone), time of year and even local terrain. We are approaching new Moon so what you described is about right.
