I am a little surprised by that. I was CERTAIN the robbery attempts would be against those NOT listed on their gun owner map. I'm still waiting for those reports to come in! chuckle

The crooks waited til the house was empty then went in. Lucky the guns were in a safe. And they caught one of the fuckers too.

It was probably a libtard attempting to confiscate guns.5a

The burglary was a foreseeable event when they published the owner's private info

I swear the scope of view is getting very dim nowadays on GLP.

Can't you guys see that they want just OWNING a gun to be a hazard to the public eye. They WANT people to think guns are distasteful and burdening to deal with.

One of the most interesting gun thefts I've seen recently, they just hooked a "come along" to the gun safe and winched the whole thing right though the wall. Impressive hole.

CRIMINAL BENEFITS OF MAP:

No guessing involved, the list and GPS points the way.

Freebies on whatever else is available in the house.

Jobs as thieves, quick cash for guns. Jobs for "fences."

Hobby for gangs, arm their members.

No standing in line to buy when you can steal.

No shortage of guns available, you just don't know which gun you will be getting a hold of.

You can sell on the blackmarket those guns you don't want

One NY Senator has the balls to introduce a bill that would protect the privacy of legal owners:

[link to www.nysenate.gov]

This case just gives him the needed support

If you live in NY, and you think this kind of malicious journalism must be stopped, give him your support

He makes a good point that not only is that newspaper's map endangering private citizens, but also active and retired LEOs, nevermind women who have been victims of domestic violence and bought a gun for self defense.

Did it ever occur to those boneheads that perhaps some of these people were trying to keep their addresses hidden so that they couldn't be threatened at their new homes...?

I've heard of women who had to move several states away, and keep all their data private, in order to escape a murderously angry or jealous ex husband

Below is NYS Sen. Greg Ball’s press release. Even if this story is proven to have nothing to do with the gun map, it is an example of “what could be,” Senator Ball points out.

White Plains Police said one suspect has been apprehended and at least one other is still at large.

PRESS RELEASE

FROM GREG BALL’S OFFICE

Brewster, N.Y. – 1/13/2013 – Today Senator Greg Ball (Patterson – R, C, I) announced that a burglary has been reported on Davis Ave. in White Plains, New York that evidently ties into The Journal News gun maps. It is reported that the burglar used The Journal News’ interactive gun map to target a home included on the map. Luckily the gun was locked up and no one was hurt.

“The Journal News has placed the lives of these folks at risk by creating a virtual shopping list for criminals and nut jobs. If the connection is proven, this is further proof that these maps are not only an invasion of privacy but that they present a clear and present danger to law-abiding, private citizens. Former convicts have already testified to the usefulness of the asinine Journal News ‘gun maps’ yet the reckless editors are evidently willing to roll the dice, gambling with the lives of innocent local homeowners,” said Senator Greg Ball.

Tomorrow, Senator Ball will be publicly unveiling three separate pieces of legislation, all with bipartisan support, among them (S2132), to protect the privacy rights of ordinary citizens; including: law enforcement personnel, victims of domestic violence and private citizens.

Let it be clear however, that under Ball’s legislation that has garnered bipartisan kudos and support, law enforcement and all related agencies would continue to have full access to permit information. Senate bill (S2132) would protect lawful gun owners, including thousands of retired and active law enforcement and victim of domestic violence survivors, from having their information publicly disclosed.

“The same elitist eggheads who use their editorial page to coddle terrorists and criminals are now treating law abiding citizens like level three sexual predators. These bills are critical to keep folks safe and fundamentally protect their inherent right to privacy.

Agreed, it surprises me that they didn't target the non-gun owner - but maybe they did but the police and MSM don't report that. They want to pain the gun-owner as having something that entices people to do bad. At least the person has a decent gun safe.

My belief is unless your only weapon is a CCW and with you at all times, you should have a really good safe at home for your guns - because sooner or later, you will be painted as an irresponsible gun owner because some thief (scumbag) broke into your house (committed a crime) and then stole your guns (committing another crime) and somehow the MSM will paint you as the problem!

Invest in a really good safe!

The Journal News editors were fools, outing gun owners in Rockland County, which is overwhelmingly the county of choice for LEOs to live in the metro area

They have endangered and outed many active and retired police

f'idiots

furthermore, the gentleman whose home was burglarized was a 70 year old man. They helped direct thieves to the home of a law abiding senior citizen

way to go

My problem with this case is that of a an irresponsible editor using his/her power of the press to help stir up a mob mentality.

I would be just as angry if they were outing the homes of medical marijuana users. Law abiding citizens, even if they partake of controversial but legal activities, should not be treated like convicted class 3 sex offenders.

Here's an interesting comment from the Rockland Times:

Oleg Khaghani · Follow · Top Commenter · Xx at Russian Embassy

If the connection is proven, then The Journal News is gukty of "SAccessory Before the Fact" on this charge, and any and all others that may follow (if it can be proven that any of the crimes are directly as the result of the JN article and interactive map. As I was saying previously, there used to be a law against "Clear and Present Danger". An example can be seen in Dennis V. United States

[link to www.law.cornell.edu]

as well as here:

[link to supreme.justia.com]

and here is an article from WIKI describing "Clear and Present Danger":

[Clear and present danger was a doctrine adopted by the Supreme Court of the United States to determine under what circumstances limits can be placed on First Amendment freedoms of speech, press or assembly.]
