It might be a good thing to get people who can hardly afford food, to stop paying to watch a bunch of spoiled grossly overpaid multimillionaires playing games, that in the end, don't amount to ANYTHING important. People are WAYYY too distracted by this crap, which helps to allow the Powers That Lie to get away with what they do.
