I may have seen this on another thread, but I have also seen it circulating around Facebook...the benefits of using onions to absorb virus and bacteria around the house. It makes sense to me, I haven't tried it, but maybe some others on here have!

There are mixed reviews going around the internet about it...basically cutting up an onion and placing it around the house as the compounds in it attract virus's, after experiments performed, many of the onions had flu virus in them (this is why is not good to cut an onion and eat it days later).

May be worth a shot!
