Attempted gun burglary tied to Journal News gun maps! Law enforcement puts newspaper "on notice"!
BREAKING NEWS: ATTEMPTED GUN BURGLARY TIED TO JOURNAL NEWS GUN MAPS

Sen. Ball renews call for immediate removal of maps and unveils legislation

Law enforcement plans rally to hold Journal News Accountable

Brewster, N.Y. – 1/13/2013 – Today Senator Greg Ball (Patterson – R, C, I) announced that a burglary has been reported on Davis Ave. in White Plains, New York that evidently ties into The Journal News gun maps. It is reported that the burglar used The Journal News’ interactive gun map to target a home included on the map. Luckily the gun was locked up and no one was hurt.

“The Journal News has placed the lives of these folks at risk by creating a virtual shopping list for criminals and nut jobs. If the connection is proven, this is further proof that these maps are not only an invasion of privacy but that they present a clear and present danger to law-abiding, private citizens. Former convicts have already testified to the usefulness of the asinine Journal News ‘gun maps’ yet the reckless editors are evidently willing to roll the dice, gambling with the lives of innocent local homeowners,” said Senator Greg Ball.

...

“The Affiliated Police Association of Westchester County Inc. is putting The Journal News on notice that we will hold [them] accountable for any incident where any of our over 25,000 members are involved with an incident where a criminal or ex-con presents themselves at the residence of one of our members as a result of their name being made public by [their] newspaper,” said Buckley.

Journal News gun permit map used by burglars to target White Plains home?

A White Plains residence pinpointed on a controversial handgun permit database was burglarized Saturday, and the burglars' target was the homeowner's gun safe.

At least two burglars broke into a home on Davis Avenue at 9:30 p.m. Saturday but were unsuccessful in an attempt to open the safe, which contained legally owned weapons, according to a law enforcement source. One suspect was taken into custody, the source said.

The gun owner was not home when the burglary occurred, the source said. The victim, who is in his 70s, told Newsday on Sunday that he did not want to comment while the police investigation continues.

I posted info re Sen Ball's bill, which he will introduce today, on the other thread as well

Thread: BREAKING: You knew it was bound to happen. Police investigating first robbery attempt from gun owner map published online by Journal News

He's the NY Senator beleves the privacy of legal gun owners, amongst others, should be protected

This case just gives him the needed support

Worse, the victim of this burglary is a man in his 70s

That irresponsible editor and journalist have endangered the home, property and life of a law abiding senior citizen

This is wrong

If you live in NY, and you think this kind of malicious journalism must be stopped, give him your support

Sen Ball makes a good point that not only is that newspaper's map endangering private citizens, but also active and retired LEOs, nevermind women who have been victims of domestic violence and may have bought a gun for self defense. Many women have been murdered by their ex's, and the police are rarely there when they need them...

Did it ever occur to those boneheads that perhaps some of these people were trying to keep their addresses hidden so that they couldn't be threatened at their new homes...?

I've heard of women who had to move several states away, and keep all their data private, in order to escape a murderously angry or jealous ex husband

Below is NYS Sen. Greg Ball’s press release. Even if this story is proven to have nothing to do with the gun map, it is an example of “what could be,” Senator Ball points out.

White Plains Police said one suspect has been apprehended and at least one other is still at large.

PRESS RELEASE

FROM GREG BALL’S OFFICE

Tomorrow, Senator Ball will be publicly unveiling three separate pieces of legislation, all with bipartisan support, among them (S2132), to protect the privacy rights of ordinary citizens; including: law enforcement personnel, victims of domestic violence and private citizens.

Let it be clear however, that under Ball’s legislation that has garnered bipartisan kudos and support, law enforcement and all related agencies would continue to have full access to permit information. Senate bill (S2132) would protect lawful gun owners, including thousands of retired and active law enforcement and victim of domestic violence survivors, from having their information publicly disclosed.

“The same elitist eggheads who use their editorial page to coddle terrorists and criminals are now treating law abiding citizens like level three sexual predators. These bills are critical to keep folks safe and fundamentally protect their inherent right to privacy.

 Quoting: BRIEF

the problem is, that they went for the gun owner's home instead, not his unarmed neighbor (who by the way, is quoted as saying he doesn't care if his neighbor has a gun in his house)

Neighbor John Mascia said he thought the gun permit database should not have been published.

"I could [not] care less what they have in their home," Mascia said.

[link to newyork.newsday.com]

So if his neighbor didn't care, why is this of such interest to the busybodies on the Journal News editorial staff?

yes, but the problem is that guns are valuable, especially on the black market

after a ban, they will be even more so

this is as irresponsible as printing a map of people who recently purchased gold coins or diamonds

This. Especially when they are seeing guns flying off the shelves, they may think it's better to try and rob someone known to have a gun than go to the house next door who may or may not have anything as valuable.

Of course everyone's right to privacy should be protected, and we all know that some police abuse their privileges

however, whether or not you like the police, they WILL fight back...I didn't create that reaction, the Journal News did when it provoked them

And as for the police or retired officers being at greater risk, that doesn't really take much thought, does it?

These are people who have arrested and sentenced violent individauls who may be looking for revenge

As one poster wrote on another news site:

There are two classes of "outted" permit holders who are really peeved:

o jail guards in the counties covered by Journal News are getting calls at home by inmates who now know where they live, and

o women under death threat who have moved and gotten pistol permits are afraid their stalkers are just a mouse click away.

I am especially angry about the women whose names and addresses may have been outed

I guess you didn't read any of my other posts

I think this is as irresponsible as posting the names of medical marijuana users, or people who have legal permission to take morphine as a result of diagnosed pain

it is a map of what to steal

however, the police union have the clout to make this paper stop and in addition, pull their irresponsible map

if that's what it takes, then everyone benefits

I just found this on the site of the retired police officer's site:

[link to www.wcragroup.com]

Many retired law enforcement officer reside in Putnam County and when they retire they must apply for a gun permit like everyone else in order to carry a weapon.

Should these law enforcement officers have their personal information and home addresses placed online readily available for criminals or ex-cons to view?

What happens when one of these individuals find the address of retired law enforcement officers who they may have had an interaction with?

Do they now target them and their family?

The posting of this vitally private information online is dangerous and could cost someone their life because of the information being made public.

The Journal News should be more responsible and cease any further action to have the names of law abiding citizens who happen to have a legal permit to own a gun placed online and in their newspaper.

What purpose does it serve to post this information online and make public, what point is the Journal News trying to make?

Now that deer and holiday season is over, and everyone has spent all their money, itis euthanasia season of the elderly.

We also just had an elderly couple beat and robbed by 4 out-of-towners.

I consider the following as proof, because it happens every year. You can set your calendar by it.

The season of euthanasia of the elderly is alive, well and kicking at Walmart (CorryPa)

Last evening a cashier did a full-frontal sneeze on me; never covered her mouth, nor turned away, nor put her mouth to her shoulder, nor dip her head toward the floor; nothing.

She is another one of those that thinks i should die because i receive "Entitlement".

She readily buys into the government lie of "Entitlement".

She doesnot know or care that I paid hard-earned cash money for that Social Security, and that my entire life of paychecks was slashed 15% (half visible; half invisible) for to go into Social Security, so that government could steal it, and leave me to live with the crumbs that fall off their lavish table full of succulent and exotic foods.

Nor does she care that our money is spread around like candy to people that never paid into SS, nor does she care that it is not a tax, and that only the private sector paid for that SS, with their blood, sweat, tears and labor for years and years and years, what seemed like an eternity, before finally reaching retirement to take a long breath, and time to smell the roses.

Biological warfare against the elderly is in full swing, compliments of Corporate Society. The seasonal onslaught has begun. Murder, she wrote.

So ya’ll, beware, and protect your children. Best keep the children out of Walmart.

The mayor in my small town in NY was on the list as a pistol permit holder, and suddenly now an obnoxious Democratic woman has just declared to run against him for mayor in November. What a surprise! I'm not all that thrilled with the mayor, but he's 100 times better than that woman. I guess she sees her chance because the incumbent is on the gun owner list, and because some Obama-voters got somehow registered in our town.

Hope our mayor slaps her down in a landslide! hf
