US Government Report Recommends BLOCKING Popular websites During Pandemic Flu Outbreak

Thanks OP, I put up this information in my "How would we know if there was a Pandemic thread, and elsewhere some time back. Proclaiming the GAO report in a single thread will get more people reading it. It's disturbing.

In such a disaster, there might be so many people sick, for we have such a huge population now compared to 1918, and the population density is far greater due to urbanization. The fear is that critical infrastruction (those areas like utilities, communications, health care, banking, government, etc wouldn't be able to do their job due to all the sick workers and that places, possibly GLP type places could offer alternative theories and therefore go against whatever information is being proclaimed by the government.

Example: someone types in the URL "godlikeproductions.com and then get's nothing. Why? When you type in a URL, really a website has a series of numbers, not a familiar phrase, and so that phrase gets looked up, and then resent to those numbers. By simply revoking that, a domain like GLP could find an immediate loss of traffic from the USA. China has done this. The Federal Government did this once. ICE blocked 18,000 domains due to alleged torrent use by "accident".

Worse, cable and satellite service could go down in a pandemic, or be deliberately cut to prevent communications. They could in order to reallocate services to critical infrastructure.

Note: the GAO, is the General Accounting Office. It's a very bland group of accountants who make economic proposals. They are not usually ones that make bold proposals. While odd ideas are often floated by the Defense Department, these are ideas for "war-gaming" endless scenarios of disasters or enemy attacks. The fact that the GAO proposed it shows the seriousness of the report. It is abnormal.

To get to GLP, do this now, and then if it happens, you might be able to access the website:

All you have to do is type "204.74.214.194." in the URL, then bookmark it. Then test the link by clicking on the bookmark. It will slightly change the formatting if you've got some javascript turned off. It still will work though.
