actually i think that africa is mainly a EUROPEAN issue.
if we(germany) werent so restricted in international military action we could easily solve the problem together with france and britain.
however for some reason we still arent allowed to use the hammer of thor.
germany should start growing its millitary power especially the intervention forces.
it's totally stupid to be able to produce ultra modern equipment and not use it by our own.

weve got so much equippment stored in several locations in germany. mostly MOUNTAIN bunker systems 4 to 10 stories and 10s of thousands of squarefeet.
maintenace of the equip is 24/7.
problem:
the bunker doors will only open if we are attacked!
thanks to the post ww2/coldwar/ 2 plus 4 treaty.
2 plus 4 treaty is VERY restrictive!
it should become obsolete.

do you deploy in peace keeping missions at all? i know that japan does. i also know that some of your fighter pilots train over here. so it really isn't a matter of trust?

we do have a intervention force KSK Kommando Spezial Kräfte as well as a paratroop antiterorr police unit GSG9.
however they are limited and designed for pinpoint action.

regarding NATO operations we do take part but mostly not as part of a fighting force.
more like logistics, surveillance, red cross, humanitarian.

i think we already have a good position in the world.
most of the germans reject war as...i would say a reflex.
thats probably because of our history.
still we also feel the threat we face today.
everything goes asymetric.
we fight individuals which dont use typical military codex.
they REJECT our way of life.
they use terror, guerillia, partisan tactics and dont give shit about any laws either national or international.
they pose a threat everywhere to every western nation.
we need to be able to respond everywhere in the world even if we are on ourself.
this goal has not been reached yet.
look at mail....there is only 1 border you have to cross and you are within the mediterranean area.
this is unacceptable.
the problem is that the last decade showed that we are not fighting a buch of terrorists.
we fight separatists MANY MANY of them in many nations on many continents.
they look like civilians the live like em.

we can not change the status by ourselfes.
the usa, britain, france, russia would have to perimt any such request according to 2 + 4 treaty.

as soon as th EU becomes a political union germany as well as any other memberstate will cease to exist. so will the 2 + 4 treaty.

we can not abandon EU.
not if we want to have any global role.
chinas and us ecomomy is way to mighty.
also we'd probably see the threat another pan european war, also triggerd by huge economic differences of the memberstates.
EU is the best solution.
britain should be part of it too even if i understand that they are not willing to give up souveregnity.
we need this free trade zoen and the UNION to be competitive on economic issues.
