Everyone in the audience looks very concerned and worried and I don't think they are acting.

It was almost like they were all in mourning. Like they know something BIG AND BAD is on the way. It was almost like a farewell speech? I mean her mother isn't gone yet, right? It kind of sounded to me like her mother is dying, but hasn't let go yet. She was quite emotional when she talked about her. She definitely came out, but that is definitely no surprise. I have always respected Jodi Foster, she was never one to want to be in the limelight. She wanted to live her life without the cameras. Still does.
