db is the abbreviation for decibel, a measure of sound pressure ie: volume.

Due to circumstances beyond my control, I'm having to hunt down and collect up stereo equipment again. So far I've got a set of these
[link to www.polkaudio.com]
and a set of the next size down, the 8's.
I don't even have an amp yet to push them, besides an sx-980 which is too small. I'll just buy up what I run into and dump what ends up sounding like shit, which may be the whole nine yards...lol !!
I think I've been through this before, buy and dump. Here we go again, 30 years later!

There should be no bickering in this thread, just celebration that many speakers that were once out of reach financially are now affordable

Right now I am rocking Mirage in the home theater, and Martin Logans in 2 ch configuration.

The mirages are an incredible value now. Yes, they are assembled in China but I must say the craftsmanship is surprisingly 1st rate.

Years ago when I was installing this stuff, I never imagined I'd be able to afford it.

I change speakers constantly now, Mt next purchase may be a set of Maggies with one of their new bass modules.

Re: Why B&W ?
I've been in the hifi industry since 1981, and spent some time as Technical Editor of a national home theater magazine.

You are simply hearing the greater efficiency of the Klipsch's...they turn electrical energy into acoustic a bit better than most speakers. That has been Klipsch's forte since forever (and longtime hifi fans will see the pun in that).

But that is in no way an indicator of quality...and most certainly cannot be any conspiracy theory. Sorry.

B&Ws do have a signature sound, which is similar to other British speakers like KEF and Celestion. Yes, there is a smoothness to it...and if you listened primarily to classical and acoustic music you would be able to discern the differences. They reveal subtleties which many speakers cannot...WAY more than anything Klipsch has produced.

But for rock and pop music, and hammerheads for volume as you seem to be, you chose well.

Now, if we were talking the famous Klipsch designs from the past, and playing through tube amps with very low power...THOSE systems could do it all...symphonic to rock.

But this new stuff? It ain't the same.

I'll take the B&Ws over Klipsch any day.

Cheers,
John

There should be no bickering in this thread, just celebration that many speakers that were once out of reach financially are now affordable

Right now I am rocking Mirage in the home theater, and Martin Logans in 2 ch configuration.

The mirages are an incredible value now. Yes, they are assembled in China but I must say the craftsmanship is surprisingly 1st rate.

Years ago when I was installing this stuff, I never imagined I'd be able to afford it.

I change speakers constantly now, Mt next purchase may be a set of Maggies with one of their new bass modules.

Sorry, when I think of Klipsch, I think of Klipschorns, aka "K-horns" or LaScalas.

I have a 1st gen 5.1 Klipsch set for my computer, and they are good for what they were at the time but it's time for a change.

The newer Klipsch horns sound harsh to me, that doesn't mean they're not a great speaker for you, and they can put out some serious SPL for those that are modestly amped.

Speaker debates are absolutely pointless as every set of ears is different.I believe life is short and you should experience as many as you can afford to rotate through.

FYI, I haven't installed in about 15 years. Consumer electronics is a whole different world now.

have you "as a installer" ever heard the RF7 klipsch's?

Sorry, when I think of Klipsch, I think of Klipschorns, aka "K-horns" or LaScalas.

I have a 1st gen 5.1 Klipsch set for my computer, and they are good for what they were at the time but it's time for a change.

The newer Klipsch horns sound harsh to me, that doesn't mean they're not a great speaker for you, and they can put out some serious SPL for those that are modestly amped.

Speaker debates are absolutely pointless as every set of ears is different.I believe life is short and you should experience as many as you can afford to rotate through.
