Whats the incubation period for rabies in cats?
Your big smelly tom cat comes home with a chew mark on the side of its face. (Of course it has not been vaccinated.) There three recently reported cases of rabies in the local area.

What do you do?

Aim for the head, it'll be a lot quicker and a lot less pain for the cat.

You mean like instantlly make it somebody elses problem?

The question is what would YOU do, not how would you shift the decisions off elsewhere.

422, give colloidial silver...
--------------------------------

What if the animal actually is 'hot' and it scratches me while I'm medicating it?

What if it doesn't show symptoms till next month and its too late for the vaccine to work?

Is it worth dying over?

Already called two vets. They want me to 'wait and see if its dies' and have the other cats vaccinated.

Already googled it. Didn't find crap.

The CDC sight was at least accurate while giving a bunch of academic foo foo. Nothing practical.

I could pass him off to 'Animal Control' but they would be all over my shit like the perky bureaucrats they are.

To have it tested they have to saw its head off first.

But yet one vet refused to euthanize it.

Gee. I Googled it and the first link said 2-8 weeks. And occasionally up to 2 years.
Don't judge me monkey.

Re: Whats the incubation period for rabies in cats?
Thanks Keeper. The vet said 10 days.

So there you have it. Its either 10 days, 2 weeks, 2 months, or 2 years.

It is really refreshing to have a choice these days.

Given the invarably fatal prognosis any pet that has ever been out of your sight for 5 minutes could be a ticking time bomb.

Guess thats why they invented the vaccine. Seems the only intelligent choice is A.)get the damn shots or B.)get rid of the pets.

Everything else is Russian Roulette.

At the very least, the cat needs antibiotics. Take it to the vet. Also you could put a few drops of colliodal silver in its drinking water.

Re: Whats the incubation period for rabies in cats?
Get a big dog crate and quarantine the cat for the waiting period. There'll be room in the dog crate for a litter box and a food and water dish and room for the cat to lie down and sleep. That's what I do when I adopt a new outdoor kitten while waiting for the vet appointment so it can't pass on illnesses to the other pets.

The 2 wks/2yrs is for Human incubation.

Works much faster in small animals.
