Neither side wants to lose Syria's misssile forces. They don't want him to fall like Ghaddafi leaving the country in civil war.

With the 'rebels' having the ability to let off bombs like at 0:35 in the vid and with them having real time targeting thanks to NATO sitting it out on a Russian warship make sense. Perhaps he is getting a tour of what sort of capabilities he is up against rather than it being some local Syrians demanding change. Libya has become a depot for small arms into Africa, Syria would become a depot also rather than it being an end game move.

Assad like Gaddafi obviously is a patriot who loves his country. He still obviously enjoys popular support and theidea that he would flee is preposterous.

THAT IS WHAT A WESTERN LEADER WOULD DO.

Just knowing he travels by helicopter puts him at risk,he has too make that move in order to govern his country,he's screwed if the rebels get something a little more sophisticated to fire at him.
