CHANCE OF X-FLARES: An X-flare could be in the offing. The magnetic field of big sunspot AR1654 is growing more complex. It is now classified as a 'beta-gamma-delta' magnetic field, which means it harbors energy for X-class eruptions

"scientists also note that the sunspot stretches approximately 112,000 miles – the equivalent of 14 Earth diameters stretched from end to end, according to WND."

"NASA has warned that if a massive solar flare directly hits Earth, up to $2 trillion in damage could occur during the first year after the storm. A full 10 years is estimated for a full recovery from such a massive coronal mass ejection."

The sun was lovely yesterday, with 1654 visible through the snow showers and thin cloud covering:

That said, it has been quite:

Doesn't 10 years in the fantasy world of a government estimate pretty much translate to, "indefinite?" I'm not a physicist or an electrical engineer, but I'm guessing that the exposure of the Earth in it's entirety over a 24-hour period to an X-class flare would send us back to the stone age. Instantly.

LOL you people must have not been following this thing from the beginning. That percentage was in the 70th percentile several days ago and has been steadily declining. If it does throw out X flares at some point I'm afraid it will be a mere glancing blow if one at all.

Hey friend, odds are that your right. We have been through many minor X's with little to no effect, but there is always a chance with a spot like this one that a major X will pop off. The odds may be small, but the fact is that it WILL happen again and again over time.
