Overpopulation is a myth.

You could give every person on the planet an acre of land in Australia and there would still be room left over.

We don't need GM foods because we throw away almost half of the food produced as it is. The issue is poor distribution and stupid laws that give huge tax breaks to one country while destroying the competition in another.

There is an abundance of food to feed every person on the planet as it is right now.

The main thing that will soon become an issue is fresh water. Considering so much of the planet is covered in the wet stuff one has to ask why desalination of saline water has never been a priority?

Yes the richest countries waste vast resources. Much of this can be attributed to planned obsolescence ( See [link to en.wikipedia.org] ). When things you buy are designed to break or are cheaper to replace than fix (looking at you printers!) you know something is wrong.

There is a 111 year old light bulb still going strong ( See: [link to www.dailymail.co.uk] ) and it is widely known that the manufactures built-in obsolescence limiting the life span to a certain amount of hours.

I'd rather sort out those topics.

No, I do not agree that over-population is a problem. Governments of the most psychopathic kind are the problem, mostly controlled by an archonic influence. Humans are not parasites that live on Mother Earth, we belong here. The parasites are the archons that control the hearts and minds of the so called powers that be; glutons and rapist of the worst kind. Over-population is bullshit NWO thinking: so incredible jealous they are of the true beauty and creative spirit of humanity that they have spent trillions and created armies to kill us off.

I think it is our responsibility as a species to not over populate. We should have respect for all the species that we share this planet with. We should know our limits and live sustainably.

That being said, I think the number of people on this planet right now is not the problem. It is the way we have chosen and continue to live that is doing the most damage.

Some of you seem to miss the most important point about overpopulation. It's not so much about basic resources(though there are indications that water will become contested in dry areas) but overall consumption. How much larger can the population get with the current western standard of well being and consumption as a global model? That is the question. You're not going to magically stop people consuming more than they need.

If there is so much food and water then why is half the world population starving? You fail to address the reality of non-sustainability. Saying that overpopulation is not a problem does not solve the issue of it currently in fact being a real problem.

We must fix things before we allow a population of 20 billion. Think about that number for a minute because it is right around the corner.

Sure you could give everyone an acre of land. But is that land arable? Can it produce healthy crops year after year without injecting the ground with phosphates that must come from enormous mines that require mega-vast resources of equipment and shipping to move it around the world. Mines that are becoming rapidly depleted.

The consumption, the waste, the logistics of supporting super massive populations just don't take care of themselves. And no government can simply make it happen. It requires true enlightenment from each individual and that will never happen. We can not live in a world where only a third of us produce something. Where a third of us actually work.

Some yahoo once said we could fit everyone in the world inside the border of Texas. What she didn't tell you is that Texas is bigger than most countries and if we actually did that, we'd be standing shoulder to shoulder buried in a column of feces and trash that would reach to the moon.

The scales are already tipping. You can say this or that about 'oh, all we have to do is desalinate water or stop throwing food away' but HOW EXACTLY ARE YOU GOING TO ACHIEVE THESE THINGS OVERNIGHT??

You aren't, is the short answer. Because of corruption (the human condition) we can't do something as simple as balance the budget because your government that YOU elected is hell bent on genociding innocent people for monetary gain. And most of you unwittingly condone it with your absence of action and lack of courage.

The infrastructure necessary to sustain our current population is 100 years behind the power curve. And it does not take one acre of land to sustain a person, it takes at least 20. At least 20! Unless you're agreeing to live in the woods like an animal with no shelter.

You pro-population people have zero real world experience. You have absolutely no idea what it takes to sustain a population. In your ignorant minds you think it will magically take care of itself. So so wrong in every regard.

Here is a fact: very little of the available land on earth is capable of producing food. And what there was has been so over-farmed that we MUST synthetically fertilize it. That in itself is a death blow to your silly dream. We still need room to let forests grow and rivers run free. We can't turn the whole fucking landscape into a strip mall and a parking lot and a freeway to your favorite restaurant or cafe.

In order for this planet to remain healthy for thousands of years it NEEDS to be primarily untouched and natural. Otherwise it can't regenerate itself.

I flew from Philadelphia to Detroit last week at night. It was storming so we stayed at a low altitude. I watched out the window for the entire hour and a half and all I could see was sprawling lights, roads, houses, and useless eaters driving to movie rental stores or to get beer.
