Netanyahu asks Kissinger for advice on 'historic peace'

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met with former American secretary of state Henry Kissinger on Wednesday night.

"You helped to advance agreements that led to the historic peace with Egypt. It is likely that you have good advice on how to advance a similar goal today," Netanyahu said.

He added that he plans to discuss with US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton "ways to achieve a peace agreement based on a broad understanding with the Palestinian people and perhaps with additional Arab states as well, an agreement based on security, which will give clear answers to Israel's security needs. We have broad understandings with the US on this issue, as on many others; they overcome the disagreements on other topics."

In that intra-cranial showdown, it now appears that it is the "hard" side, the perceived necessity of setting aside one's empathies, that has captured Barack Obama's thinking.

Obama's "Kissinger" revealed itself first when his Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton went to China and declared that bringing up the unpleasantness of Chinese human rights violations would serve no useful purpose and detract from the importance of finding common ground with Beijing on various international concerns ranging from trade to climate change to North Korean nuclear weaponry (this from a woman who once went to China to protest its discriminatory policies toward women).

Our hearts may have wanted to protest the suppression of freedoms, say a word for Tibet, complain about the treatment of Uighurs, but the Administration decided it needed China for other things of more immediate concern to us. That has since been followed by a retreat from our previous confrontational approach toward Sudan where Obama now envisions a more positive policy of engagement with a government whose president has been indicted by the International Criminal Court for atrocities in Darfur.

There is no bottom-line conclusion here: in a presidency that is so young, one cannot know whether the soft line taken toward China, Sudan, Russia, and other violators of human liberties will in the end dominate Mr. Obama's foreign policy decisions. But neither can the early signs be ignored. For the moment, it appears, Henry Kissinger is back.

President Obama's National Security Advisor, General Jim Jones (USMC ret.) made a very curious comment at the 45th Munich Conference on Security Policy in Germany. He said:

Thank you for that wonderful tribute to Henry Kissinger yesterday. Congratulations. As the most recent National Security Advisor of the United States, I take my daily orders from Dr. Kissinger, filtered down through General Brent Scowcroft and Sandy Berger, who is also here."

Jones' comment appeared to be an unsuccessful attempt at dry humor – only a few in the audience actually laughed – in acknowledging Dr Henry Kissinger's enormous influence in U.S. foreign policy which had been acknowledged a day earlier with a prestigious award. Many, however, immediately viewed Jones' comment as an unguarded admission of who really is in charge of U.S. policy. Jones comment raises two serious questions. How much influence does Kissinger exert over the Obama administration and the policy making process? Furthermore, what influence does Kissinger have over U.S. policy on UFOs and extraterrestrial life?

Kissinger's influential role in setting U.S. foreign policy is generally viewed as starting with his role as President Nixon's National Security Advisor in 1969 during the Vietnam War. Kissinger's role in steering U.S. policy, and his failed efforts to bring an end to the Vietnam war have led to many criticisms against him. The most controversial is Kissinger's role in the failure of President Johnson's peace efforts during the final months of his administration in 1968. Released Presidential tapes reveal that Johnson concluded that Nixon's associates were engaging in treason. Kissinger's covert activities during both the 1968 Presidential campaign and later as National Security Advisor has led to accusations that he unnecessarily prolonged the Vietnam War for political gain.

Kissinger's influence over U.S. foreign policy, however, dates from much earlier than the Vietnam War. His influence dates from experiences in Germany during World War II when he was part of the Army's Counterintelligence Corps, and helped identify Nazi scientists familiar with advanced technologies of interest to the U.S. Some of the Nazi scientists retrieved in Operation Paperclip were directly involved in advanced technological projects that according to the father of modern rocketry, Hermann Oberth, had been assisted by knowledge of extraterrestrial life and technology. He said:

… we cannot take credit for our record advancement in certain scientific fields alone. We have been helped." When asked by whom, he replied, "the peoples of other worlds."

Lt Col Philip Corso, who was in charge of the Foreign Technology Desk at Army Research and Development branch (1961-1963), confirmed that Nazi Germany had retrieved and developed extraterrestrial technologies. In a July 1997 interview he said:

There were crashes elsewhere, and they [the Germans] gathered material too. The Germans were working on it. They didn't solve the propulsion system. They did a lot of experiments on flying saucers. They had one that went up to 12,000 feet. But where all, we and they, missed out was on the guidance system. In R&D we began to realize that this being [an ET] was part of the guidance system, part of the apparatus himself, or itself, as it had no sexual organs."
