What do you think of quantum psychology?

That is, the theoretical reduction of the human psyche to basic symbols.

Is that what Symbolic Logic teaches under Philosophy. I've always wondered what that course was about.

Re: I am wise. Ask me a question.
Ok, lets look at a drug, such as Heroin.

Now there is not a 1st world person who does not understand what being "hooked" on a drug means.

Why is there, generation after generation, a subset of people (from many aspects of society) that get involved with drugs. Especially dangerous narcotics like this, that more often than not, end in short term death for the taker.

I am leaving aside those too stupid (or careless in their behaviour) to know the difference. Such as those who drink petrol.

Instead I am focusing on 1st world people of average intelligence.

What say yee?

I think Russell brand answers that very well:

i think that entheogens played .. maybe the most important part in our evolution as human beings. We use them because we are wired to and becoming master of an addictive impulsive personality is extremely difficult. I am similar to Russel in this. I managed my addictions as well, eventually.

Why are baby kangaroos born with no hair?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24185552

Well they aren't fully developed yet. Animals which come out with fur on already have to be on their feet and up to the challenge of surviving away from their mother's body right away, usually.

kangaroos migrate to the pouch and mature there. It's warm in there, they don't need fur.

How come they don't just continue to mature inside the kangaroo and come out fully formed...? I would guess that is has something to so with the Australian environment. the kangaroo has two sets of reproductive equipment and they have the ability to regulate what goes on in there according to the environmental conditions which can be really harsh. if times are good, they can have both on the go. If times are not so good, they can stop a fetus from developing as well as halting sperm. I remember something vague about them being able to store excess fetus' as well?

perhaps the joey in the pouch can be more easily 'aborted' than one in the body if suddenly the environment goes into drought? As in perhaps it is safer for the mother when it gets to a certain size? I really am guessing here with this from my own knowledge, I haven't looked this up so take answer as guess work. I know more about human evolution than other vertebrates.

hmm is that an official stream of study in psychology?
If it is a reductionist effort from a main stream philosophical pov then I'm sure it will be dry and retarded as per usual. And main stream psychology is really crap, don't have anything good to say about it.

One thing I did read recently was this paper:
[link to rsif.royalsocietypublishing.org]
which is discussing the reduction of the psyche into a form where causation is not removed from the higher levels if one says that the lower levels are all explained by the causations known in physics.

Really it has always struck me as dead end work when mainstream philosophy or psychology or whatever tries to explain consciousness or take it into consideration. Without esoterics, you just haven't got a hope of doing that. it's where you have to accept art as legit explanation for things and that is way out of reach of mainstream today.

Re: I am wise. Ask me a question.
what is 'wise' and how do you know you are it?
 Quoting: chula homa

that's an interesting question.
there are some experiences in life that you go through that are full of suffering.. to the extent that it changes you. Suffering is what makes a person wise, I think. But also, bliss. The range together is what makes the music of wisdom.

Creation is about sound, music, notes, maths, ratios, geometry, arrangements. The greater your calibration to the full scale of scales [ratios] in the omniverse, the more accurate your understanding and translation of it. as yourself and through yourself.

The lowest note and the highest notes... and correct calibration of all the rest, really, requires those 'measures' to be somehow experienced and integrated into the body.
Those long nights of the soul.
they are the long notes.
Those high flights to the sun, they are the highest ones.

The long dark measures are treasured in spiritual evolution. Hard to get to and hard to live through. but in them and through them in unification with the highest bliss comes wisdom.

wisdom is great perspective.

How do you know you are wise? When you are wise, you are wise enough to know it.
 Quoting: Requiem

We see this as a gift given,a reward from peering into our own Temple souls and choosing life or death by all that WE do.

WE seek not the lie but to have the lie made known to US that came from the Time when the knowledge of good and evil was used against US.

Wisdom says in me, Its not the having of the knowledge of good and evil that causes one to become defiled, its what WE choose to do with this knowledge once WE see how reality really is in all that WE do from having this knowledge...

Re: I am wise. Ask me a question.
1)If the evolution of the brain is correct as proposed by psychobiology, and portions of the brain evolved over time, in a manner similar to the formation of the heart, then what do you think would be the next formation of the brain? What kind of large identifiable structure would possibly form? What functions would it serve? How would it connect to other systems to integrate existing functions?

What portions of the brain that are not well integrated would likely be a starting place for a logical connection.

2)It's possible that synesthesia is an evolutionary change in our senses, or it could be a mutation or it could something that always was there, like an unusual anatomic difference like situs inversus. What do you think it is?

The two questions are possibly related.

3)Where is consciousness located in the body? Is it located outside the body? There are people who die on an operating table. They are clinically dead. No heartbeat and no brain activity. Then they come back. It's entirely possible that our consciousness exists as sort of field around the body, and not within the brain. Or it could be our imprecision with our measuring instruments. Or it could be that we don't know enough about the anatomy and physiology of the body.

The last question could possibly be related to the first one. Consciousness could be similar to the third eye in some spiritual systems, and hence a function of the pineal gland. (See ancient Egypt)

Thanks for that Socrates.
However, I would argue that relatively, wisdom exists, and it is real.
Also to not state something that it true is to perform a disservice.
Relatively, I AM wise. Not just intelligent, but wise.
It was the word that came to mind.

What is the last digit of Pi?

What is the full name of the SHEM HA-MEFORASH with all the letters in proper sequence?

What is the sound of one hand clapping?

Is Jim Morrison really dead?

If a monkey typed indefinitely upon a computer word processor program, would he eventually type The Origin of Species?

If we possessed a single nose hair from Sir Issac Newton, and we cloned it, would we end up with a brilliant person or a giant nose hair?

If you went back in time, and met yourself, would that not be a paradox, so hence if you were propeled back in time as stated, then would you immediately know that you were in a different universe (multi-verse theory)?

Finally what every guy on GLP really wants to know, are you as sexy and brilliant as you seem to be?

 Quoting: #Geomagnetic_Storm#

Now as in this moment, I'm not sure on specific details, but the last i heard it was weakened and undergoing changes. i follow Ananda Bosman's work on it because I like it. Apparently the large scale animal deaths were about ions or something getting where they shouldn't because of a weakened magnetic field.
