it is possible, just really unlikely. It would take more then one shot and they would miss a few planes. The cops would be there before they did anything.

It is true for fighter jets and helos, at least that is what they train you for in the military although it is more of a hail Mary action.

Hitting a plane with small arms fire is very difficult and will cause minimal damage. Airport perimeter fencing would keep you well out of the effective range of small arms. Any hits on the plane would not cause enough damage to effect a landing attempt or a departure abort to emergency landing.

Yes it is possible, but very very unlikely. The chances do go up with smaller planes, I will grant you, but you could easily do more damage with an R/C plane or a flock of birds.

Sorry crashing the guntard party but an assault rifle can take down CESNA-like small airplanes in low altitude, taking off or in landing approach.

As for departing planes, they don't take off at the end of the runway. Runway length is designed to give space to abort take off, so the plane actually rotates and begins its departure climb about 2/3 of the way down the runway. By the time the plane reaches the perimeter fence it is way to high to be hit effectively, if at all, by small arms fire. Not to mention that planes usually begin a turn shortly after take off.

Now yes, helicopters are a different story, since they are designed to operate low and in non airport environments. That being said, it was not AK-47's that took down those blackhawks in somalia, it was timer fused RPG's.
