I think I found an indication about it. I was going to post at the "Diogenes" thread and found a paragraph in greek which I tried to confirm, but couldnt.
Then I thought that the name of the writer was wrong so I searched in the net as well as in my old encyclopedia, but i couldnt find a reference on the specific text (or his work was "locked" for me- thinking of Aaron Swartz)

Anyway I managed to find the text in an english translation and here it is.

Dio Chrysostom (Dion of Prusa or Dio Cocceianus) Born 40ac –died 120ac) was a Greek orator, writer, philosopher and historian of the Roman Empire in the 1st century.

One of his Discourses on Kingship (no 4 -p193/194) it is a docudrama on what Alexander the Great and the filosopher Diogenes talked about when they met. This can be a imaginary story but look what he writes at the end

The Fourth Discourse on Kingship

The king replied,
"Diogenes, you seem to be joking. If I capture Darius and the hand of the Indians to boot, there will be nothing to prevent my being the greatest king that ever lived.
For what is left for me when I have once become master of Babylon, Susa, Ecbatana, and the Empire of the Indies?" 52

And the other, observing that he was aflame with ambition and that with all his heart he was being borne at full stretch in that direction, just as the cranes when flying stretch themselves out in whatever direction they are speeding, exclaimed, 53

"Nay, in the state of mind in which you are, you will have not one whit more than anyone else, nor will you really be a king, no, not even if you leap over the walls of Babylon and capture the city in that way, instead of breaking through the walls from without or sapping them from beneath, 54º
nor even if you imitate Cyrus and glide in like a water-snake by the river-route,22 and in the same way get inside the walls of Susa and Bactra, no, not even though you swim across the ocean and annex another continent greater than Asia."

Unfortunatelly i cant find the greek text there to see the exact words he uses, but still it is interesting that he mentions a continent bigger than Asia across the ocean.

WOW

ok thats awesome. very nice find op!!

makes you wonder on the shape of the geography back then the continent could have been even bigger than it is now depending on sea levels & earthquakes in the meantime etc.

well i think they just say that it was a really big continent, because this claim is from the Roman time, not some mythical time where big geological changes could have happened.
I cant find the original text, I will try again tomorrow. The greek wikipedia talks about the Pillars of Hercules and the continent that is there across the ocean and bigger than asia, but they dont have the original text either (and they mispell the name of the author)

But look what I found here.

Plutarch "the face on the moon"

page 20/21 is a summary of what Syllas a carchidonian tells the story he heard at the Cronos temple in Carthage (tunisia).

Most of the attention given to the dialogue, however, has been attracted by the concluding myth.49 This consists of two parts. The second and main part is the eschatological myth, which establishes the purpose of the moon in the cosmos by explaining her rôle in the "life-cycle" of souls and which the stranger told Sulla he had from the chamberlains of Cronus (942D‑945D); the first is the introduction to this myth or "frame-story," in which the stranger explained to Sulla how from the continent on the other side of the Atlantic he came to the Isle of Cronus, one of several that lie westwards of Britain, and thence, after having served thirty years, travelled to Carthage where he met Sulla (941A‑942C).

The ancient world had trade with the Americas.
Copper mines in Michigan supplied Bronze Age in Europe.
Nicotine and cocaine found in 90% of Egyptian mummies.
Lots of other evidence too.

Civilization was advanced 6,000 years ago then crashed, probably the result of a pole shift.
We are due for another in December 2019.

There's lots of physical evidence that Europeans had settlements before the time of Christ.

I have got a copy of this book (the original 1970's something publication). It's got pictures of monuments in Vermont and other places.

The evidence of ancient settlements on the North American continent is indisputable.

Yes I read about the copper mines (lake superior). Well it is supposed that the story Syllas tells is about this, and they have taken it out! (the first 34 pages are mising with the excuse:

1 . . . These were Sulla's words 1

1 Concerning the mutilated beginning of the dialogue see Introduction § 1.

(The authenticity of this dialogue has sometimes been questioned but without any plausible reason.1 On the other hand, despite statements to the contrary, it is certainly mutilated at the beginning,2 although one cannot tell whether much or little has been lost; this follows not merely from the abruptness of the opening as we have it, the lack of any kind of introduction, and the failure of the identify the main speaker until two-thirds of the dialogue have been p3finished, but even more surely from the nature of the text in the opening sentences.)

hehe I believe they visited too, not sure if any of the ancient people established communication though (but the texts and the first testimonies show some must have).

Anyway I found the text but it is in ancient greek, difficult to translate it correctly.

Why should they do this to an ancient text?

Was just about to say that Byazantines had maps with the American coast in them.

I believe that they visited, not sure about the level of communication established, but some common themes in arts can be found in both ancient American and Greek civilizations, but that's not saying too much. I consider ancient Greeks more technologically advanced than the Vikings despite the milenia between them, not coz i'm Greek, lol, and if the Vikings allegedly managed to visit, can't see how the Greeks couldn't, they knew about Britain, the Greek visit theory says that they've gone through Britain-Greenland-Canada.

ok i found it probably but at the end (i guess the beginning is still missing but at least most of the story is here)

An isle, Ogygia, lies far out at sea,

a run of five days off from Britain as you sail westward; and three other islands equally distant from it and from one another lie out from it in the general direction of the summer sunset.
In one of these, according to the tale told by the natives, Cronus is confined by Zeus, and the antique Briareus, holding watch and ward over those islands and the sea that they call the Cronian main, has been settled close beside him.

The great mainland, by which the great ocean is encircled, while not so far from the other islands, is about five thousand stades from Ogygia, the voyage being made by oar, for the main is slow to traverse and muddy as a result of the multitude of streams.
The streams are discharged by the great land-mass and produce alluvial deposits, thus giving density and earthiness to the sea, which has been thought actually to be congealed.
On the coast of the mainland Greeks dwell about a gulf which is not smaller than the Maeotis and the mouth of the Caspian sea.

These people consider and call themselves continentals and the inhabitants of this land p185islanders because the sea flows around it on all sides; and they believe that with the peoples of Cronus there mingled at a later time those who arrived in the train of Heracles and were left behind by him and that these latter so to speak rekindled again to a strong, high flame the Hellenic spark there which was already being quenched and overcome by the tongue, the laws, and the manners of the barbarians.

Therefore Heracles has the highest honours and Cronos the second. Now when at intervals of thirty years the star of Cronus, which we call 'Splendent' but they, our author said, call 'Night-watchman,' enters the sign of the Bull, they, having spent a long time in preparation for the sacrifice and the expedition, choose by lot and send forth a sufficient number of envoys in a correspondingly sufficient number of ships, putting aboard a large retinue and the provisions necessary for men who are going to cross so much sea by oar and live such a long time in a foreign land.

Now when they have put to sea the several voyagers meet with various fortunes as one might expect; but those who survive the voyage first put in at the outlying islands, which are inhabited by Greeks, and see the sun pass out of sight for less than an hour over a period of thirty days — and this is night, though it has a darkness that is slight and twilight glimmering from the west.

There they spend ninety days regarded with honour and friendliness as holy men and so addressed, and then winds carry them across to their appointed goal.312 Nor do any others inhabit it but themselves and those who have been dispatched before them, for, while those who have served the god together for the stint of thirty years are allowed to sail off home, most of them usually choose to settle in the spot, some out of habit and others because without toil or trouble they have all things in abundance while they constantly employ their time in sacrifices and celebrations or with various discourse and philosophy, for the nature of the island is marvellous as is the softness of the circumambient air. Some when they intend to sail away are even hindered by the divinity which presents itself to them as to intimates and friends not in dreams only or by means of omens, but many also come upon the visions and the voices of spirits manifest.
For Cronus himself sleeps confined in a deep cave of rock that shines like gold — the sleep that Zeus has contrived like a bond for him —, and birds flying in over the summit of the rock bring ambrosia to him, and all the island is suffused with fragrance scattered from the rock as from a fountain; and those spirits mentioned before tend and serve Cronus, having been his comrades what time he ruled as king over gods and men.
Many things they do foretell of themselves, for they are oracular; but the prophecies that are greatest and of the greatest matters they come down and report as dreams of Cronus, for all that Zeus premeditates Cronus sees in his dreams and the titanic affections and motions of his soul make him rigidly tense until sleep restores his repose once more and the royal and divine element is all by itself, pure and unalloyed.
Here then the stranger was conveyed, as he said, and while he served the god became at his leisure acquainted with astronomy, in which he made as much progress as one can by practising geometry, and with the rest of philosophy by dealing with so much of it as is possible for the natural philosopher.
Since he had a strange desire and longing to observe the Great Island (for so, it seems, they call our part of the world), when the thirty years had elapsed, the relief-party having arrived from home, he saluted his friends and sailed away, lightly equipped for the rest but carrying a large viaticum in golden beakers.
Well, all his experiences and all the men whom he visited, encountering sacred writings and being initiated in all rites — to recount all this as he reported it to us, relating it thoroughly and in detail, is not a task for a single day; but listen to so much as is pertinent to the present discussion. He spent a great deal of time in Carthage in asmuchas Cronus receives great honour in our country, he discovered certain sacred parchments that had been secretly spirited off to safety when the earlier city was being destroyed and had lain unnoticed in the ground for a long time. Among the visible gods he said that one should especially honour the moon, and so he kept exhorting me to do, inasmuch as she is sovereign over life and death, bordering as she does upon the meads of Hades.

There are three main problems about this stone.
First the language is supposted to be paleo-hebrew but it includes modern punctuation and stylistic and grammatical errors.
Then is the archeologist who found it and made it famous. He has been accused to have fabricated other archeological data to support his pre-Clovis migration theory.
And last that there should be at least a small settlement there according to the archeologists for the people who stayed and worked on the stones, but they havent found any.

I actually know someone that has a map from the early 1400s that shows not only North and South America but Antarctica also. The greatest thing is where he got it from, I'll just say that it came from a specific club and he recieved it once he broke a certain rank as a gift. The fucked thing is because of this club he can't ever bring it to public light.

It was weird as shit it showed all three continents but it had strange descriptions about them that were wrong, I could barely read it because it was in italic and I'm not very good at dead languages. But it showed New York with a desert and Alaska with roses, also it showed where eldarado was supposed to be.

The thing that tripped me out the most is Antarctica that shit wasn't discovered until the late 1800s early 1900s.

So, it seems they talked about the american continent (as well as the islands before it) or they would have used the name Atlantis for the land described.
Atlantis was supposed to be in the middle of the Atlantic across the Hercules pillars, here we have a route that goes north to Britain, ireland, iceland?, greenland? and from there to north america (Canada/north US, reaching down to Lake Superior).

 Quoting: Ostria1

I actually tried very hard when I first saw it because it predated the Piri Reis map by about 50 years. I could never find anything on this particular map. The best idea I have about it is that someone actually sailed to the Americas before Columbus and never set foot on land, which would explain why the descriptions were wrong, however someone could have sailed there thousands of years ago before the climate change.
Apart from Antarctica the strangest thing I noticed was a drawing of a cactus in NY, this specific cactus that was drawn is only found in one place in the entire world and that is in Arizona.
The map had a bunch of writing on it describing history.
It confused the fuck out of me, maybe it has something to do with the Gauls, I know they spoke Italics and I know they were prone to traveling into the unknown and there are sites in the Americas that seem like the have Gaul influence in their design.
Honestly it perplexes the fuck out of me.

this is very interesting and I do understand what you are talking about :)
Have you tried to find this map (or a similar one) online? I know there are more than the Piri Reis map.

Re: The ancients knew there was a big continent across the sea (or so it seems)

Quite positive it was Italic I could understand a bit because I know a little Spanish but it wasn't spanish, I know the Gauls had their own language however when they appeared around 650 bce they learned to speak Italic to communicate with the Romans and the Greeks, at least I'm pretty sure that's how it went its been a while since I studied ancient history. I know they eventually lost their language which caused them to lose to Greece, its actually where the word Panic came from.

By that time everyone spoke Latin I guess, it was the formal language of the empire, so an educated man like a chartographer would use latin in his maps.

here is a nice collection of early maps on north america I found online
