This is so true. I couldn't believe it either but a contractor that I do work for, his mother in law was deathly sick with a blood infection that she acquired as a result of having her gall bladder (however you spell it) taken out and her daughter took her stool from Waxahachie, TX to West Monroe, Louisiana and it saved her life.. They said that it it best to receive it from a family member and preferably from one who is around them frequently and lives a similar life style for some reason. As filty as it may seem, it worked. At least in her particular case..

I lost a family member to C-diff about a year ago. She apparently got the c-diff infection after surgery and taking antibiotics. I had never heard of c-diff until she got this.

It is one of the most horrible infections you can imagine. There are only 2 antibiotics that will keep it at bay and they don't work that well. As soon as she would stop the antibiotics, the c-diff would come back with a vengence.

It basically "ate" through her intestines and killed her.

Something else about C-diff. It is hard to kill in the environment. you have to wash your hands in hot, soapy water or use a bleach solution. The alcohol gels everybody uses and that are in hospital and Dr. offices do not kill c-diff.

I read about the fecal transplant procedure on the internet, but the hospital doctors never brought it up as an option. It sounds like it could have saved her life.

If I ever acquired c-diff, as gross as that sounds, that would be the treatment I would seek out, as you are likely to die otherwise.

People are not being made aware of the dangers of c-diff. It is actually worse than MRSA staph infection.

The folks who need this done, have been given too many antibiotics. Antibiotics are like shotguns. They kill in a wide pattern. They aren't specific.

Since most bacteria lives in your body and doesn't harm you, then using an antibiotic will frequently cause a woman to get a urinary tract infection (UTI). It can kill the gut bacteria, and then, the antibiotics are halted, and a terrible infection of Clostridium dificile infects the gut. This is why people get a fecal injection.

Doing so, redoses the proper bacteria into the gut like lactobacillus.

Disgusting, no?

Probably, in fifty years, we'll have to stop using antibiotics. Overusing them will result in more and more things like
MDR-Tubuculosis
Resistant strains of all the Sexually transmitted diseases(STDs)
MRSA
ETC

With the exception of saccharomyces boulardii, (Florastor) Saccharomyces cerevisiae and fructooligosaccharides (FOS) (which can be taken at the same time at the same time you take an Antibiotic) make sure you take the Antibiotics and the Probiotics separately and at least several hours apart.

The university local to me has made a development in this treatment - I guess they got a "fecal donor" who was an athlete who hadn't taken antibiotics for 10 years, and colonized a "robotic gut" with his feces, then managed to isolate some of the healthy bacteria and culture them into a compound that can be implanted into the gut of people suffering from C.Diff.

Apparently it looks like vanilla softserve, but it does the job. The whole problem with C.Diff. is that people generally have it in their digestive systems anyway, so when antibiotics kill off everything else, it can flourish. This compound fights back against the C.Diff. without harming the host, since it's just healthy bacterial flora anyway - it's like a caulking gun full of healthy bacteria they shoot directly into your intestines - not nice, but better than the alternative.
