No, his mind is not for rent
To any god or government.
Always hopeful, yet discontent,
He knows changes aren't permanent,
But change is.

We're sucking the life from the whole of the world Can't be confined or condemned to be Reduced to a place that's a violent resolve To the end they will try
And silence you.

"If I ventured in the slipstream
Between the viaducts of your dreams
Where immobile steel rims crack
And the ditch in the back roads stop
Could you find me
Would you kiss-a my eyes
Lay me down
In silence easy
To be born again
To be born again
To be born again
In another world
In another world
In another time
Got a home on high
Ain't nothing but a stranger in this world
I'm nothing but a stranger in this world
I got a home on high
In another land
So far away
So far away
Way up in the heaven
Way up in the heaven
Way up in the heaven
Way up in the heaven
In another time
In another place
In another time
In another place
Way up in the heaven
Way up in the heaven
We are goin' up to heaven
We are goin' to heaven
In another time
In another place
In another time
In another place
In another face"

To keep in silence I resigned
My friends would think I was a nut
Turning water into wine
Open doors would soon be shut
So I went from day to day
Tho' my life was in a rut
"Till I thought of what I'd say
Which connection I should cut
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

(Back home.)

Peter Gabriel, Solsbury Hill.

Great song about spiritual awakening. If I ever get a funeral I'm requesting it be played.

Hmmm. Are you my spiritual twin? This is only the second time I've ever posted on glp, and I was posting the same lyrics seconds apart from you. Interesting.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32511985

Huh! Wow. I don't know. The funny thing is I was debating between posting the whole song and the last verse, then chose the second verse instead as it has always resonated the most with me.

Don't know about spiritual twins, but glad to meet someone who thinks this song is as amazing as I do. hf

Re: What single line in a song has had the greatest emotional impact on you? Why does it get to you?
Great fun thread!!! Thanx JV

My song changes from year to year as to what is relevant in my life. It used to be all Led Zeppelin lyrics for that celtic love Robert used to put into words so well....

By the turn of the century it was much of "The Fragile" by NIN due to the doom and gloom of love...

But right now and lately I am really liking this ancient Brit Rock Song from Procol Harum. The Chorus in Conquistador....
The balance of the lyrics remind me of the now fading star that was once these Great United States of America....

Procol Harum Conquistador Lyrics
Songwriters: K. REID, G. BROOKER

Conquistador your stallion stands
In need of company
And like some angel's haloed brow
You reek of purity
I see your armour-plated breast
Has long since lost it's sheen
And in your death mask face
There are no signs which can be seen

And though I hoped for something to find
I could see no maze to unwind

Conquistador a vulture sits
Upon your silver shield
And in your rusty scabbard now
The sand has taken seed
And though your jewel-encrusted blade
Has not been plundered still
The sea has washed across your face
And taken of it's fill

Everybody's gonna shout for joy
Come on without, come on within
You've not seen nothing like the mighty Quinn

With, without
And who'd deny its what the fighting is all about

They say that life's a carousel
Spinning fast, you've got to ride it well
The world is full of Kings and Queens
Who blind your eyes then steal your dreams

And they'll tell you black is really white
The moon is just the sun at night
And when you walk in golden halls
You get to keep the gold that falls

Don't put all the words to the song, or it's a copyright issue...
----
There are dozens of songs, depends on my mood.

I remember I had a job i wasn't too damn fond of back when,so I'd sing this song

"Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most"
___________
"May your chains rest lightly upon you..."
