We should never ever discount the importance of weapons for personal/ family protection and for adding food to the table, nor the various skill sets of trapping/ fishing/ growing one's own food/ etc. However, once the time for Internet bravado has passed, the procurement of food for most isn't going to play out quite as fanciful or bountiful as in their daydreams. Health Physical Ailments/ Injury Weather Additional Threats (animal/ man/ environmental) Population of Indigenous Food Sources Access to Indigenous Food Sources All of these will play to a large negative effect in one's ability to take food from the land - regardless if they wish to admit it or not. Now is the time to prepare your food stores, and that includes growing, canning, dehydrating, and purchasing from a long-term food vendor. Even with ammo cans stacked to the roof - if you have no access/ opportunity to take food - for whatever the reason - that brass isn't going to be too palatable. Prepping is neither a fad nor following a recent trend - it is a multi-tiered lifestyle. Sorry, but your theory only holds water if the MILLIONS of city dwellers somehow managed to ESCAPE their death encampments! I live very rural, and one week AFTER deer season, I had a herd of 14 in my backyard...my family took SIX deer this season! If you live in most cities, you're not allowed to own a gun...how would they hunt IF they managed to walk to the woods? Live like rats...die like rats, eating your own! Anonymous Coward User ID: 21963969 United States 01/18/2013 04:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This means two things. Procuring water for drinking and hygiene. And when I say hygiene I mean flushing your waste. This is something we take for granted and might not have. You will be much better off as a vegan if you have to resort to latrine digging for the long term. So if you are considering storing food for this kind of emergency I would consider going vegan and securing multiple water sources. Canned fruits and vegetables are a good idea, as long as they are canned or jarred in water. You would want no sodium items, as additional salt will make you thirsty. You also do not want fruit packaged in syrup or sugar. This water will be drinkable and although minimal, it might be the difference between life and death. Sprouting seeds are a good idea too, as these can be grown indoors with little water and no environmental concerns. There are dos and don'ts to proper sprouting techniques. I would research them sooner than later. |

I first read it as a warning not to store food supplies because it would make you vulnerable to attackers. You are only vulnerable to attack if others know you have the food. keep what you have for your preps to yourself. A friend now will kill you dead while your sleeping to feed his dying kid. And yes you need guns to protect your family, my point is you also need food to feed them, and that point goes missed by many people. Nice website BTW.
