I agree, Guns and Ammo are sold out. Buy food now before that is all gone from the shelves also. the more you have the better chance you have of making it threw any disaster.

If you live anywhere near Latter Day Saints (Mormon) food warehouse, that's where you could pick up up some bulk food at good prices. These are located in many parts of the world.

Call first and make sure that location is selling to non-members & find out their hours. Over the past several years the Mormons figured out that the better prepared their community was, the better off their members would be.

by storing it somewhere not easily found. Boxes labeled for x-mass in your attic, or 55 gallon steel drums labeled fertilizer in your barn are some simple ways. You could bury it, or line the inside of your walls with it. Just dont tell people you have it, because when they need it they will come looking, then you will need your guns.

Yes, Very good point!! bravo!! .. they will also package and can any food you bring to them for long term storage in cans or bags if you set up an appointment. They are very friendly and will help you with any questions you have. The Mormons know food storage and how valuable it is.

This has been mine and most of the serious survivalists strategy all along. Just trying to catch GLP up on the info.

I am going to make a thread on water and how to get it, store it, and clean it later.

Food is no good if it gets stolen by thugs. So a gun is as important. Guns and food go hand in hand. I do think some people place too much emphasis on guns, but then again they may be looking for confrontation more than starvation. Who am I to tell them they are wrong.

As far as food goes I shy away from all the kits. I've been doing this a while and the secret to stockpiling food, as my dear old grandparents showed me, is to stock what you eat. Use the stuff you stock. Don't tuck it away.

I'm sitting on 40 pounds of rice, 80 pounds of dry beans, 10 pounds of milk, 9 pounds of powder potatoes, 20 pounds of corn bread mix, 10 pounds of bread flour, about 20 cans of meat, 30 or 40 cans of this and that, 9 pounds of oatmeal, and some odds and ends. This is my stockpile after eating on it for 6 months and next month I'll be restocking it. The only things that I don't try to use up every 6 months or so is my rice and beans which are packed for long term storage and form the back bone of my food supply if any doom actually does come.

This stockpile has really saved my household on a couple of occassions. We have experienced financial hardship and had to rely almost entirely on our stockpiles for months. My wife used to get mad when I would drag in 30 cans of chicken or 30 pounds of flour. After seeing that the food actually came in handy for times besides dooms day she has came around to my way of thinking.

And by the way, having had to actually rely on stockpiles, I've been surprised at how fast all that food can disappear when you're getting into it every day. We bake a lot of bread and it is shocking how fast 30 pounds of flour can get used.

That's what I have done...I learned how to shoot a bow. We also have a crossbow, but that is a bit hard for me to load. In Canada we have to resort to whatever we can. Slingshot would be a good idea, I think I will look into that.

We have been storing food and water for a few months now. Cosco is good for buying BIG items. We also have bought a few buckets of freeze dried food, just in case. Let us not forget items like toilet paper. As crazy as it sounds, it is never good to be in a position where you have to use leaves to wipe your ass! :)

Paying $35 or $40 for a bucket of white rice is insane.

There is NO Nutritional Value in white rice.
On the other hand, BROWN Rice is about the finest food basic their is and is loaded with tons of nutrition. Serve brown rice with beans or legumes and you have a Complete Protein. Eating white rice is like sitting down to a meal of corn starch. At least corn starch will thicken gravies... Gonna grind your white rice to do the same?

Basically, if you're gonna store food, you need to store the best quality, organic, Whole Grains and other Real Foods and be able to cook from scratch.


Buy beans, lentils, short-grain brown rice, wheatberries, whole corn, rolled oats, cereals, local honey and cooking oils at healthfood stores, from local farmers or farm co-ops. Your county Ag Agent should be able to give you a list of beekeepers, farmers that sell direct to public. You may also have a farmer's market.

Can take fruit and fresh produce and dehydrate them yourself. Excalibur dehydrator is a quality unit. If your oven will give tempo control down to 125F you can use it to dehydrate. Easy to make jerky.


Got a Water Filter? REI Coop sells a Katadyn drip filter with 3 gallon reservoir; ideal for home use. about $200. Easy to clean and lasts for many years. Ours is going on 10yrs in continuous service and is still like new.

Got personal water filters? water bladder units with drink tubes and bite valves?


Sure you need some weapons for self-defense; but anyone who don't have their other needs met doesn't have enough of a clue to be able to make a gun their main tool for survival.


Don't have a decent rifle? A lever-action marlin .30-30 with a scope and a lee loader kit with lee bullet mold (round nose style) plus some primers and powder would be a good setup. A bolt action .30-06 with scope would be fine if you are in Western US or Plains States. A pistol is best for constant carry, but revolver will work also. If you get a lee loader for your handgun, you have a versatile tool for sure....

Probably most versatile handloading tool is a bullet puller. Be able to salvage bullets, primed brass, and powder. Pull bullets from any handloads you buy and re-load them yourself...


Got the basic tools? Knives for food preparation, axes, saws, strike anywhere matches, medical kit?

Most of this stuff you already own. old sheets and towels will strain dirty water before you run it through your filter. prolongs life of your filter.

Biggest skill you need to acquire is how to hide from trouble and see it coming from a distance so you can get away. A good spotting scope and binoculars probably worth more than a fine weapon...

Great post and i agree with most of it. The only concern i have is i hope you dont have all that food sitting in one place out in the open at your house. There might be a time when thieves come breaking into your home not for your big screen but for your food.

Spread your supplies out and get creative on how to hide things. There are numerous ways to make all that food disappear into the background of your house. So if you were ever not around to protect things and got robed, your food will still be there for you.

Build a doghouse over a buried 55 gallon steel drum in your backyard even if you don't have a dog. Thieves don't like dogs, and there not going to look under the dog house. Just one idea but you get my point. Everything can be hidden if you get creative enough!

I hide All my bulk long term storage.. Its good for 50 plus years, Ill dig it up when i retire if i make it that far..

or hunting.

Several aerosol cans of wasp/hornet spray conveniently located throughout your dwelling will give you some protection and time to escape or reach a better weapon. They are better than pepper spray since pepper spray is in a fine mist or stream of liquid and could blow back at you.

Hornet spray comes out in a strong stream of foam and its range is from 15 to 20 feet, longer than pepper spray.

Aim for the bad guy's face. This stuff will temporarily blind them and requires medical assistance. While they are screaming and jerking around blinded you can either run away or hit them with a skillet & tie them up.

The nice thing (for you) about this stuff aside from its effectiveness is IT IS NOT MEANT TO BE A WEAPON. Says so right on the can. You can explain away having several cans by claiming there's wasps coming in through the window, air vents or whatever and that you or someone in your household is allergic to them.

I have cans in the bedroom, bathroom, and near exterior doors. You could also carry a can in a car or in a large purse. Cost here is about $5 per can.

Call the one closest to you and i bet they allow non members. I am not a Mormon or religious at all and have been going to my local Mormon friends for years. Really nice people actually and they have never once brought up religion.

I agree, that is the reason i started this thread.

1 gallon of cooking oil can be purchased for about $5-6 and has ~31,000 calories. And type of oil is a very cheap way to add calories to a meal, and is delicious to cook with to boot.

Another thought:

If it is not too far, I'd just show up. I doubt if they would turn you away. They are VERY aware of the economic situation, etc. and want those around them to be prepared, too.

I had a friend once who went FULL RETARD with the Born Again Christian thing. He went waaaaaaaaaaay overboard.
I was wondering after reading their site whether they would do the HARD SELL like the born again people do.

The rest of your post is great i just wanted to comment on this.

The reason people store white rice over brown rice long term is because the oils in the brown rice prevent it from staying fresh for more then a few years. You can rotate it out, but for long term storage you must use white rice.

White rice does not have the oil and packaged in mylar with O2 will last forever.

As for nutrition value, ask the asians if that is true or not..
