I do not think anyone is saying food OR guns. We all know the food would be worth its weight in gold WTSHTF. Common sense says protect it...a gun is vital to.

I did like that sling shot Idea...going to get a couple tomorrow...and a few bags of marbles.

and always make sure to have salt. you can have all the water and food in the world but if you run out of salt you will die.

The Mylar bags with Oxygen absorbers can be found cheap on amazon.

for 30 bucks and some time you could have many pounds of food preserved to last for 50 years or more.. hands down this is the best way to package your food...

Whole wheat is great but that is more for the advanced class. you need a flour mill to use it correctly and most wont have that. everyone can boil up some rice in water..

In this day and age I think food confiscation would be far too dangerous for governments to do, especially since society would already have been broken down and lawlessness will be everywhere. Too dangerous to confiscate anything from an armed population that are scared and hungry....

Where do you get these mylar bags? AT a army surplus store or sporting good store? In Canada we have a outdoor/sports co-op called Mountain Equipment Co-op...maybe they sell them?

There is almost no excuse other then complete ignorance not to store food for future emergencies, and to ensure the food security for yourself and the ones you love. Cost is not a factor in North America... food has never been cheaper then it is now. If you are on minimum wage, as I am, you can still easily put aside enough food to last you a good long while.

Put aside $10 of food today...a bag of rice, pasta, tuna fish, peanut butter, or canned beans. And then keep adding to and refining your cache. $100 worth of food stored will last you a looong while.

Here is what I use. I have cats so I go thru alot of cat litter. I buy it in the mylar jugs from Costco. Then, when they are empty I wash them out real good... and fill with rice.

And Jerusalem Artichokes...sunchokes are great for back up crops. You can't get rid of them once you plant a few. They can grow anywhere and be eaten cooked or raw.

If there's no food available, there won't be any gasoline either. Raiders are not gonna come from very many miles away.

Stock up on dog food. Keep your watch dogs alive, and you can eat it, too, if you get hungry. then you can eat the dogs if starving.

100# Beans, 100# rice, 50# pop-corn, 5 gallons of lard or vegetable oil, couple pounds of salt, a few dozen cans of salmon, chicken, or mackerel--easily keep a couple of people alive for a year.


Throw in some freeze dried veggies, a few pounds of coffee, and some Ramen noodles, and you're livin' high on the hog.

ONLY read through the first two pages but, NO ONE has mentioned what you will do when the food RUNS OUT !

You need a plan ! This involves family first ( They all come to you, in my case as I have the food for them for a YEAR and nuclear blast shelter ), and CONTROLLING the neighbors by talk, NOT bullets ( they ARE SAVED for the roving gangs of thugs/rapists ). I made a list back in the early 90s when things were better than today; First three rules were :

1. EVERYBODY works !
2. If you DON'T work, you DON'T Eat !
3. Work comes FIRST. This can be anything from guard duty, making bread/food, watching for intruders ( Old people who have good eyes/hearing ), baby sitting.

You WILL need these people to help with farming, etc. and defense. Naturally you need three VERY important things; Seeds, tools and farm land already cleared. 99 % will be hand labor, as gas will NOT be available, so forget tractors.

AMONG the 'other rules' on my list was NEVER let lawyers, bankers and government workers into your community, as they WILL want the 'old system' where YOU did ALL they work, and they milked you like a cow. HOW ? By the usual promises to whom they are talking to BEHIND YOUR BACK, that IF they do this/that they will suddenly have to do so much less, as long as THEY are in charge. Turn them OUT immediately, or you haven't a chance. They have NEVER done, nor can do an honest days work in their lives ! End rant.

I was buying brown rice today and saw a bag of Basmati rice but it didn't say much else, wasn't sure what kind of rice it was, so I put it back.

Great ideas. However, unless you use it up soon, vegetable oil goes rancid fairly quick.
Vegetable oil should be one of the things on your list to rush and buy when TSHTF.
I think lard has a better shelf life, but don't quote me on that.

You need the Oxygen Absorbers in there also.
They are food safe and work by chemical reaction to scrub the Oxygen out of the bag.
The mylar is used because it doesnt breath.
Oxygen Is the number one reason foods go bad.
Remove the Oxygen and studies have shown that foods like rice and beans can last almost forever.

Lol. I save all those packets from bags of beef jerky or when i buy new shoes or hand warmers. Wait, Hand warmers do the same thing (hint hint)

Glad I'm well stocked on 22lr. This past fall I got my fishing gear out of mothballs and made sure it all still worked. Replaced what was needed. Also bought my 4 water filter. The signs of collapse and police state are everywhere......

Brown rice will go rancid much faster than white rice because brown rice has alot more oil in it. Brown rice is more nutritious for you... but WHITE rice will last much longer!

yes lard is a much better choice and has more uses and in my opinion is more healthy for you
