yes lard is a much better choice and has more uses and in my opinion is more healthy for you

I have a very large food stash but have n0 cooking oils. The cooking oils that I first bought went rancid long ago so I decided buying any sort of cooking oil was a waste of money.
Anyways, I never did by lard. Do you know how long the shelf life of lard is? I guess the better question would be to ask how long does lard keep before it goes bad?

dont know what it is officially but im using some now that
is 4 years old.has had no special storage considerations
just stored in the bucket I purchased it in and still tasts fine.I think it has an almost indefinite shelf life as long
as you dont let the air or water get to it.

Try coconut oil. If it's extracted properly it'll last insanely long, just ignore the BBE, in most cases for a lot of things it's usually just plain wrong. It's VERY healthy too and should aid you in fighting infections/molds etc. There's just one problem; IT'S EXPENSIVE. But well I'm sure a lot of places could do you a deal for such a bulk order.

And yeah beans/rice or noodles/veggies/oil/herbs and spice/salt and live like a king. It's basically what I ate everyday for years anyway! Apocalypse? No, I always eat like this! This should go without saying but remember to get a PROPER sea salt as you can do without the blood pressure problems and mineral deficiencies from chemical salt, I mean you'll have enough problems right? Just remember to mix a bit of kelp powder in the sea salt for the iodine.

Oh and luxury. yes, I know you can't really rely on luxury in such a setting, but it wouldn't hurt to package away SOME food just for your mental pleasure. A treat to look forward to occasionally. It wouldn't last but it would help lead you into whatever hell you have to adjust to.

Store a bit of food that is easy to store that you hate and would never eat. For trade, something you wouldn't mind trading. Hey, they don't have to know you'd have to be 3 weeks starving before you touched it!
