Idaho checking in here, I've got plenty of food stored and garden in the summer plus many horses around......but this is turning out to be one hell of a winter. It is damned cold here and the whole state is under snow, the high country is out of the question for bugging out. We're talking multiple feet of snow and well below zero temps.....forget it for a couple months.

You're on the money - it will be a lack of food coupled with the ability to get/ stay dry and warm that will kill many.

We should never ever discount the importance of weapons for personal/ family protection and for adding food to the table, nor the various skill sets of trapping/ fishing/ growing one's own food/ etc. However, once the time for Internet bravado has passed, the procurement of food for most isn't going to play out quite as fanciful or bountiful as in their daydreams.

All of these will play to a large negative effect in one's ability to take food from the land - regardless if they wish to admit it or not.

Now is the time to prepare your food stores, and that includes growing, canning, dehydrating, and purchasing from a long-term food vendor. Even with ammo cans stacked to the roof - if you have no access/ opportunity to take food - for whatever the reason - that brass isn't going to be too palatable.

Prepping is neither a fad nor following a recent trend - it is a multi-tiered lifestyle.

Stay at your house and stay warm, move people into a small internal room to stay warm if needed. You have food and many items that are useful where your at. Hunker down and try to keep your animals alive and happy. Good luck

Threatening a ban on anything is a sure fire way to make the thing being banned to go viral and fly off of shelves.

Bottom line is, if it happens we must remain calm and courteous. I know in my heart, that there are more good people out there than bad. As soon as the shtf, instict will kick in and a knowing need for cooperation will prevail. Just watch.

I just can't believe how people run out of food. In normal times, I have at LEAST a month worth of food in my house. There is never a time where we have NOTHING to eat, but I have friends who constantly say how they are "out of food, not a scrap to eat, gotta get to the store!" How does that happen? How are you so irresponsible? I have 3 kids. I will never be without at least a month of food in my house. Sure, we might be eating rice and beans by the end of the month, but we could survive! And we have been stocking up even more...as of tonight we have about 3 months of food...bags and bags of rice, cans and cans of beans, mountains of peanut butter, and so on. It's really not that hard to keep some extra food around. It's irresponsible not to, ESPECIALLY if you have kids.

Don't count on that at the outset and a ways into it.

That comes later.

Before that would be the winnowing of all the self-centered raised on violence screaming me me mes who try to take from others what they should have taken care of themselves.

I don't like guns. Never did.
I have them, though, because they are necessity.

My most favorite thing in my food stash is my Stag Chili by Hormel Foods.
-very versatile... can mix it with almost anything (rice, wheat,pasta,potatoes,soups, etc)
-tastes good
-long shelf life
-Hormel is a respected brand for food preppers (makes Spam)

Calmness and courtesy will be in short supply if the SHTF as obama has successfully created an expansive government dependent class who are clueless as how to survive if their checks fail to arrive or if supply chains break down.

Without much thought if somehow the power grid is knocked down the dependent class will loot local electronics and become the proud owners of useless big screen televisions and other electronics?

Cooperation is simply not in their game plan and if you doubt me please take a walk through your nearest neighborhood area of government dependent leeches.
