i live 10k Max from Epi centre.

Felt big and rattled for a while.

Came off the fault line from the first quake of 7.1 on Sept 2011.

Not so bizzare tho?

We hit our 11,000 EQ' milestone a few days ago. Yes, first decent one for a while...and Ill expect more :)

At the depth of 12km it is DEFINITELY a fore-shock.

The old fault line runs at the depth of 5-8 km.

Guaranteed there will be a M6+ or even a M7 within 48 hours.

Are you sure? It was centered at Rolleston...which doesn't cover the Gap. The Gap is Halswell to the Port Hills?

It was South East of Rolleston and M2.4 a bit further South from the M4.6.

I HOPE it is not that the GAP that goes but I think it's only capable of up to a 6 ...so they say. Nevertheless...it will cause ALOT of damage...and several of those surrounding surburbs suffer from bad liquidfaction from the previous EQ's off the GAP fault line. Liquid faction sucks arse! LOL

Felt reports up to 3200 with reports as far North as Auckland in the North Island and Dunedin in the South Island.

That must have been some damn hard rocks breaking since the magnitude was only 4.6 !

Oh yes , I'd agree with that . People are saying it felt worse than a 4.6 .. I disagree however it was a very STRONG /powerful quake . Def some big stones got broke lol

Now this odd warning from Geonet ? Which has been wrong so far ! No aftershocks in the range 3 at all, only a mere M2 minutes after.


"GNS Science duty seismologist Mark Chadwick told Newstalk ZB the tremor was felt widely.

"I'd expect to see some aftershocks from this one.

"Probably in the magnitude 3 type range - they tend to last maybe a few more days (in terms of) aftershocks," he told Newstalk ZB."
