Re: BREAKING: 3 people SHOT at GUN SHOW - NEGLIGENT DISCHARGE BY POLICE OFFICER - OOPS!
The gun was not "in" the gun show. This happened at the entrance where they (cops) "check" (make sure guns are unloaded) guns being brought in to be sold. Guy had shotgun in a case and when he went to open the case to give gun to cop the shotgun went off before the cop ever touched it. Guy probably bumped the trigger when he reached into case to take gun out.

Question, why do they zip tie the guns at gun shows.
Isn't that an oxy moran??

I mean if it's okay to sell, buy and carry a weapon, why do you need it immobilized at a venue that promotes the ownership of said items.

Don't bother coming at me for this question, I'm just trying to understand the culture, thanks.

Who has a loaded gun at a gun show?

That's negligence.
 Quoting: Dr. Manhattan

Who? A police officer, that's who. Actually it is kind of surprising.

I go to gun shows all the time. from California to Wisconsin to Arizona and watch people pick up handguns and rifles all the time, with their finger on the trigger, not alongside the guard. It happens constantly at every show.

It tells me how many people are totally clueless towards the basics of gun safety. It also tells the seller it'll be easy to sell to that person because they know the person doesn't know what they're looking for (that's from my cousin who used to travel and sell for S&W at the shows for years).

I think I learned about that rule when I was 8, maybe before even. At our house and both my grandparents, one who lived on a farm in southern Wisconsin there were gun(s) in every room. I slept with them under my bed from when I was basically a baby. NEVER, not once was there ever an incident.

I work with police (K-9's) and I'M NOT A HATER! But that guy was stoopid! He didn't check his gun before he went to the show? And he HAD to have his finger on the trigger when he picked it up. Unless the gun was haunted and fired itself...

Police later explained that a a 36-year-old man from Wilmington, North Carolina, was unfastening the case of his 12-gauge shotgun on a table near the show entrance when it accidentally discharged. The man planned to sell the shotgun at the show.

The bird shot ended up injuring three people
. One was a sheriff’s deputy, who suffered a slight injury to his hand and was treated and released at a local hospital before returning immediately to work, said Joel Keith, chief of police of the North Carolina State Fair.

A 54-year-old woman from Benson, North Carolina, was being treated a wound to her right torso at a local hospital, and a 50-year-old man from Durham, North Carolina, was treated for an injured left hand, Keith told reporters.

“I want to emphasize that this is an accident,” Keith said.

Yeah I assume it was a mistake, but gun safety is important. One mistake could be the last mistake.

The officer should have checked the firearm to see if it was loaded before zip tying the trigger. He should have also not pointed the shotgun towards the attendees while zip tying the trigger.

The gun owner should have also checked the firearm before he left his house if it was loaded.

It's an alignment of negligence that could have been avoided with hindsight. I just hope everyone involved has learned a valuable lesson.

Where are you all getting the info it was a police officer that shot 3 people.Every story I can find says it was a shotgun that a private seller was going to sell.

From the original post link...
Agency spokesman Brian Long says a 12-gauge shotgun discharged while its owner, 36-year-old Gary Lynn Wilson, of Wilmington, unzipped its case for a law enforcement officer to check it at a security entrance.

You are all looking at this the wrong way. Yes, someone made a stupid neglegent mistake and peope got hurt. Yes, the media could and probably will frame this biased against guns in general and perhaps it's a psyop.

Think about this for a moment though. A gun went off at a place where thousands of people were armed and not one person lost their head and returned fire because the people who were armed were smart enough and level headed enough to know the difference between a threat and a stupid accident. Again, thousands of people with guns in a confined space. One stupid mistake. No one freaked out.
"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787

I've been going to gun shows in California for 25 years. I've even worked a few, but not as a gun seller.
A rumor that has been floating around for the last 5 years was that Anti-gunners were coming in and loading guns when the seller was distracted in hopes of a negligent discharge.

In all my years of going to gun shows, I've only heard or been around for 4 accidental discharges. To have so many in one day should raise eyebrows.
