India no place for foreign women

I have no interest in going there, that's for sure.

That place has lots of problems.

$89 USD to get to the hotel. Wow. I've heard some crap like that in Thailand too (minus the rape threats). If you're white, they'll charge you double for everything, site you for laws you didn't break, etc. Bribes are the order of the day. You'd better be traveling with locals. I have no interest in foreign travel.

My bro goes back there with his family but he always rides in the back of the car. His Thai family is constantly running point to keep him from getting screwed. Otherwise, it's a wonderful place to visit!

as blonde, caucasian woman who has travelled alone on her own both asia, africa (and some other countries), i never experienced those problems.

of course, as a foreigner you pay the tourist price for nearly everything, but it is not that extremely much more.
eg if a indian pays 50cent for a riksha ride, i had to pay approximately 2 USD.
but you have to bargain, as this is part of the culture one is visiting !
westeners are not used to that and later complain about being tricked. stupid westeners who don´t read at least a bit of information about the country they are visiting.

never ever have i been threatened while abroad - in no way.
i never had to be afraid someone might harm me in any way. not in africa, not in india.

i would even say i felt safer and "better looked after that no harm comes my way" when travelling those countries than living in my hometown in germany - because people in those countries look after "their" tourists, as they need nothing less than bad publicity as many of them depend on the money the tourists spend there!
(i was exactly told that by a Kenyan guy whom i talked to when visiting this beautiful country.
I was there, while ministry of foreign affairs warned about civil war there due to the election fraud some years ago - and our newspaper BILD had the headlines "2 Germans beheaded with machete" which was absolutely nothing but fearmongering and Kenya had to deal with a decline of 90% visitors due to all this stupid nonreal stuff)


but i did meet some other stupid tourists who run around all "oh those poor people", not knowing a word like "hello, thank you, good bye" in the language of the country they are visiting and throw their money around / show their wealth. some pay the price they are told without even thinking, so i can´t blame anyone who makes a months salary by selling to just one stupid whitey.

eg one austrian girl i met while traveling SOA, she got her handbag robbed (that´s what she told me) on her way home from partying, drinking, drugusing - so i don´t blame anyone than herself.
maybe she even lost it due to her condition.
this girl was that stupid, that she lost her passport while crossing the border from cambodia to thailand (while she had to go peepee), got angry and even yelled at the cambodian who found it and brought it right to her. she completely was impolite and "lost her face", because she couldn´t even speak english properly and blamed this guy for stealing it! (i was with her and her friend the whole day, no way the cambodian did it! she is just not able to look after herself).
btw, this girl had complete new&high end travelbag and stuff.

i won´t blame anyone in any country trying to make his share when having to deal with those kind of foreigners.
those tourists who don´t show respect to the people of the country they are visiting or are just plain stupid - i am not sorry if they get pulled over the table.

But there are in fact many innocent people, not stupid, not drunk/drugging, who are sensitive and respectful to local culture and still get ripped off or worse. One Scottish lady in Bangkok was walking down the main road of Sukhumvit with her husband on the way to a restaurant for dinner, and two guys on a motorcycle came up and slashed her bag which they grabbed but she was somehow still attached to it, and they dragged her down the road. She died before getting to a hospital.

My friend's son went to Laos for some volunteer work and disappeared into thin air - his stuff was found in a pile in some jungle area. She has been there about 15 times over the last several years, trying to find out what happened to him.

And crime in Nairobi is sky high. Too many stories to write here. If I was going on a safari, I would go to Tanzania - somewhat less crime.

And this story in India - for that man to bring up the recent gang rape - you cannot excuse that.

Just because something has not happened to you while traveling only means you have been lucky. It can happen to anyone.

But bad things happen everywhere. :(

It's never wrong to be too careful. Being gullible on the other hand can lead to serious harm.

India is a shithole and Indians are disgusting trolls. There are way too many of the bastards. I always figured if they wanted to seriously reduce the world population, the nasty little bastards in India would be a great place to start biological warfare. Then hit China and Africa!

I don't understand why anyone would go to that shithole to be honest. They don't even use toilet paper the dirty bastards; they clean themselves by sticking their fingers up their ass holes.

India is no place for anyone in my opinion. If your looking to go to that part of the world its for personal reasons. There is not much in the way of tourism. Most of the cities are way overcrowded and most of the ancient world in india is lost thanks to people selling stuff, wars, robbers, and great britain pillaging the crap out of it. If your looking for someplace to visit in that part of the world just look north to china. There is alot to do and see there. PS I dont mean offense to anyone I realize if you have family there it would be an awesome visit, but if you don't there is better tourist countries in the area thats all im saying.

what you don´t know about this story:
they were not on a typical vacation trip.
they rented the house including house personnel for a long-term-stay, as they did every year.
they weren´t robbed and killed because of greed and "being rich tourists", this was a classic relationship crime due to jealousy/unrequited love.
relationship crimes happen everywhere and anywhere and do not depend on country or associate with being a tourist.
so it has absolutely nothing to do with Kenya being an instable country - could have happened at home as well, as unrequited love happens everywhere and some just can´t take it.

btw, this house was just about a 10 minutes walk away where i stayed, and i always walked around (just lying on the beach is boring).
as there was nothing else to do than walk around and chat with the people living there (most hotels were closed, diving closed, all due to the lack of tourists in the main season!),i asked them about what happenend, and they told me the story. and they really were astonished when i told them what story western newspapers made out of it!

of course one should watch his own back - but anytime and everywhere. but as i wrote in my other reply to the user above you, when you know how/how not to and where/where not to go, how to act/dress appropriately, it is as safe as at home. just do your homework before going to visit another country ;)

Ha my first thought was why the hell would any sane person go to India. Even the Indians hate India and that's why they're all trying to get out. If you like the smell of feces and the sight of people toileting in public, if a gut ache is your idea of the perfect after dining experience then Hey India is for you.

- 90% of all malaria cases happen in Africa, south of the Sahara desert.
- according to WHO statistics, 216 million(billion for the US) cases were reported
- only 655.000 people died from it.
- the ones who died where mostly small african children in the outer parts of the country where they lack of medical treatment.

so.. the chance of picking up malaria when travelling, having a moskito net, wearing long clothes and applying insect repellent are not that big.
and even if you get stung - you (should bring along) have an anti-malaria treatment as standby in the case it happens.
as every malaria is cureable, no problem with malaria _for us tourists_.

(did you know, most africans die from malaria because they are so poor they can´t pay the 1 USD to buy a moskito net?)

so is china, as they murder female fetuses, too.
oh, and so are all 1st world countries including those wealthy muslim states, where abortion is available, raping and murdering is very common there too, and women are just not worth the same as a man.

I worked in china for several years. Never been to India nor do I ever plan too.

ok, but did you visit "real" china or did you just stay in shanghai or another big, modern, growing city?

china is a "shithole", too, as every country is who makes it from 3rd world to nearly 1st world in just some years ;)
overpopulation and many poor people from the countryside moving in the cities, with all what comes along with that.
(slums, destroying the environment, drugs, crime..)

3 apartments shown, all absolutely disgusting. Ugh, so gross. And that was showcasing the good properties.

I had a place in the country and an apartment in beijing. Beijing was extrememly crowded and people pay no attention to anyone around them they just go about their bussiness bumping into you. Traffic is messed up, they still havent got it figured out in that regard. Other than that I thought in was beautiful. I spent weekends out of the city (I couldnt take the overcrowdedness). There was a few farms nearby and the people there were pretty freindly and the scenery was amazing.
