My Husbands Best Friend Tried To Kill Himself. No Signs, No Warnings-Just BAM.
This guy is generally a happy fellow, always helpful, caring, honest...His wife had no clues, no warnings. They found him on the floor after he downed an entire bottle of Gin and injected 4 insulin shots. Yeah, he's diabetic.
And he was on a statin med.

I have read that statins can cause depression and suicide. Any thoughts or input on this would be helpful to us right now!

We just didn't see it coming! He signed his truck to his wife, and wrote her a note that she found in the bed.

He had just bought tickets to take the whole family to the circus, and on the day of the circus thing was supposed to happen, "it" happened.

Any thoughts on statins and depression? It's got to be something like this cos before he got on the meds he was fine!!!

Sorry to hear that

I'm always weird about people who try to always act like everything is great when things are the worst they've ever been in history.

First off, get off the statins. There are better ways.

Second, get the guy some help. Obviously theres some problem that none of you know about.

Third, His family needs to tell him how much they need him & suicide isn't the answer to a temporary problem.

Re: My Husbands Best Friend Tried To Kill Himself. No Signs, No Warnings-Just BAM.
I've heard of several people who have done that---either tried or actually did kill themselves for no apparent reason. It is so hard on the families; there is never any closure for them if the loved one did take their life.

For a couple of them, possible reasons did surface after a while but still unknown for the others.

Be strong for your friend and my prayers go out to her husband.

We are. Hubby drove 250 miles to go be with him tonight. I gotta stay to watch over my elderly mom or i'd have gone too.

They are slowly withdrawing the anesthesia right now. He should be starting to come around after 4 days of being heavily sedated till they get his blood sugar stabilized. He should be starting to wake up right about now as I write this. Wonder what will go through his mind when he sees he is still here....

He will see his best friend and his wife there for him

(Both Separate searches/independent searches)
Name of Med + the word Suicidality
then
Name of Med + the word Suicidal Thoughts
in a search engine
then
in the FDA website search engine.

Years back when I was an AC, I exposed the use of the word "Suicidality" in what I feel was an attempt to hide those side effects in many meds. Now it SEEMS they use the term "Suicidal Thoughts."

Listen to commercials, like the Lyrica one, for these words at the end. Ask your buddy if he is on Lyrica, Neurotin, Gabapentin, Cymbolta, on so-on so-forth.

There are many meds such as SSRIs that SEEM to have this problem. It seems with Statins the term "Brain Fog" is used, but I suspect "Brain Fog" symptoms can lead to feelings that MAY be considered a road to "Suicidality." Or perhaps better asked, is "Brain Fog" a term used to "diminish the side effects?"

If he's a type-1 diabetic, depending on his age, he might just be fucking fed up with having to deal with it 24/7.....my son is type-1.............if he's type-2, then he probably needs to get in the gym and get healthier....you feel better and your mood improves..........I doubt the statins are the cause of depression......I quit them because of other side effects.....jitters, feel like shit in morning, etc.

By the way, my type-1 son is a stellar athlete with no issues......

Type II with a very damaged leg from a guy backing into him while he was riding his motorcycle down the street.

I know that got him down pretty well, cos he can't work any more. He drove for US Express. I am well aware that may be a catalyst, he never ever showed it!!! He was very resourceful and hardworking. Had a bum leg but a great mind.

Yep, I am all about Turmeric too. Also Anatabloc. Best otc anti-inflammatory out there.

Nobody wants to listen. Nobody wants to hear about how you can heal your diabetes yourself...they want the pharmaceuitcal gods to dictate their meds. I have tried to talk to him about this stuff. Diabetes is fixable! And statins are a big effing joke! He is on Lipitor. My hubby just read there are like 4,258 lawsuits against Phiezer, right now as a result of attempted suicides. AGH!

If you hadnt said he actually wrote a note i may have said it was acciential.I knew a guy that got pissed and then took his insulin, which turned out not to be his insulin but his brothers, was that drunk he then took his insulin as well. he was luck his GF walked in while he was taking his own and found hed also taken his brothers-he couldnt remember any of it when he sobered up.
Maybe your husnbands friend got drunk, depressed and wrote the note etc and may not remember any of it.If they have in in an induced coma, he may not have clear memory even more than he would with just alcohol.
Just putting it out there.

His wife thought he'd just just decided to tie on a good buzz, which was unuasual to a point for him, but once in awhile he'd do that. He's not a regular drinker per sae. He was on the LR floor passed out, so she tried waking him. She even called us asking what she should do...and we all decided he's sleep it off..get him to bed. So they somehow got him into bed, ad when she pulled the covers back, there was a note. If she hadn't seen the note when she did, things may have been different...

There is no treatment for depression today!

They only give you drugs, and among the side effects are the desire to kill your family!

I hope he survives.

When he does, do not allow him to get psychiatric treatment.

Does he have a steady job?

If not, everybody knock on doors and twist arms until he find employment -- don't wait for 'things to work out.'

If he does not have a job, he needs a 24-hr. a day friend to just be there and hang out with him.

The statins are deadly, and he needs to get off of them.

I'm with you Bro.........I've quit them, doctor be damned,,,,,,,,Interesting thread though.....I currently have a tumeric poltice wrapped around the back of my neck to relieve a MERSA infected boil, which I can't even see decent, for fucks sake, went to the doc, she gives potent antibiotic and says take benadryl for the itching, nothing else..well, that wasn't going so well so I wikiped it and found the best home remedy was tumeric, eat it, drink it or apply topically....I've been doing all three......as soon as the poeltis hits my neck it burns a little, which actually felt better than the itching...within 20 minutes, no more ich.......amazing stuff, I usually take it a nite with a jigger of Braggs, black pepper and cayenne.............
