My husband and I are writers and photographers, and we post a lot of our work on our website, but we also post on Twitter and Facebook; however, there are some precautions we take with all of this Facebook and cell phone "surveillance" invasion.

1. We don't buy the latest, brand new on the market cell phones, iPhones, Droids, etc. We buy a more simplified version and then we TURN OFF the GPS function. It saves money; and sometimes, a little more antiquated is safer.

2. We're careful about our computers as well. We don't turn on anything to record or create a situation where you can be seen and heard.

3. We have Canon and Fuji cameras, but we TURN OFF the GPS function as well.

4. We don't have a GPS in our car. We learned to read a map years ago; consequently, the thought of being 100% dependent on technology makes me nervous. What if the grid goes down? What will you do if you can't read a map with a flashlight?

5. We also have a landline phone that we talk on most of the time; plus, we don't send photos from our cell phone to Facebook or Twitter.

Someone who is very proficient with GPS can download the picture that you take on your cell phone or camera..... and figure out exactly where you are....if the GPS is turned ON.

We don't post pictures to FB or Twitter if we're out-of-town shooting photos of birds and wildlife. People on FB don't need to know that you're gone. We only post pictures when we return. Our house was burglarized last year and we are trying to be EXTRA CAREFUL.
