Any coefficient 1, is redundant. therefore,

3/1(1+2) = 3/(1+2), since 1 is the coefficient of (2+1)

Ans: 1

Easy.

1. Calculations must be done from left to right.

2. Calculations in brackets (parenthesis) are done first. When you have more than one set of brackets, do the inner brackets first.

3. Exponents (or radicals) must be done next.

4. Multiply and divide in the order the operations occur.

5. Add and subtract in the order the operations occur.

X=9

How to solve this problem:

Figure out what the terms are. Simplify if possible, and apply an principles or laws to make the solve process easier. Apply order of operations. Solve.

1a, 1(x+y), 1pi;

Anything with a coefficient of 1, the one doesn't need to be written. Anything without a 1, the 1 CAN be written, but usually is not. However, it is ALWAYS there regardless if it is written or not.

THEREFORE:
a, (x+y), and pi; ALL have a coefficient of 1.
a = 1a
(x+y) = 1(x+y)
pi; = 1pi;

ALSO: 1(1+2) = (1+2). Lose the one, and solve, since you have no idea how grouping works.

3/1(1+2) is the same as 3/(1+2)

ANS: 1

This will never change, unless the identity law of multiplication changes where 1*a != a.

Here is how to rewrite the problem properly when the obelus is used. Notice how they don't change 2x into 2 * x and then use only the 2 for the divisor??
