Wanted: 'Adventurous woman' to give birth to Neanderthal man
What the hell, any volunteers?

A leading geneticist is on the hunt for an 'adventurous woman' to help turn back the hands of time - and give birth to a Neanderthal baby.
George Church, a genetics professor at Harvard Medical School, believes he can bring back the extinct ancestor of modern man after more than 33,000 years.

Okay, ethical question time.

Is the resulting child A) the surrogate mothers son/daughter?
(Probably not, no doubt she will have to sign some waivers to rights to the kid or whatever).

B) property of the lab (or funding body of the lab, or worse... some board of shareholders!)

C) a free citizen of germany with all the rights and privileges.

Who raises the child?
Where will it live?
What happens when it becomes an adult?

That amazing stuff.

I don't see why they need to artificially inseminate a woman with neanderthal genes though... just get Ron Pearlman to knock some ladies up.

True shiat, neanderthal man smarter than most today.

Pitch thought used on spears, actually first chemical or synthetic.
spear points actually hard for anyone to make today because it was so specialized.

NO! This is insanely wrong!!! You don't breed people for scientific study for any reason. If they want people to study ...they need not go any further than the ones running our country and their scientists....

In a perfect society, that may be true...

There are a lot of incentives that can be given... Namely cash. Enough cash would make just about anyone in todays day and age question their own morals.

Sadly, there are plenty of women that would probably do it simply for the notoriety.

One question was "Who will raise the child?"

HOW will the child be raised? In a lab being studied, tested on... eventually dissected. Not going to school or developing relationships and definitely not experiencing life the way it should be.

Okay, mindfu@k time. So what if this child is allowed to breed. Would there ever be 2 allowed alive at once. What if they breed and bring back Neanderthals. what if they were better suited for survival, but we have weakened. What I they take over again and we go instinct. Then the legacy of humanity would have been they brought back thier main competitor and were their own undoing. The very brains that brought them success ultimately were their doom.

errr- where´s the problem with that? it is called "evolution"!

.. if we bring back something better/stable than we are, dying off of homo sapiens and homo neandertalensis back in the world is pure Darwinism !

Technically the child would be a clone no?
I thought pretty much everyone agreed that we wouldn't clone humans because of those very questions.

I know there were shady claims of it being done already, but I'm pretty sure legally it's a big no no.

Neanderthals were still technically humans after all.

Yes but it would be us that engineered our own demise in this case, it would hardly be a pure example of "natural" selection at work.

If we created the first neo-Neanderthal and that scenario happened...

Would that be irony?

Ha yes, good point. I was just reading about it, naturally only after I shot my mouth off.

Seems they had bigger brains than modern humans too.

Stronger... possibly smarter?

This idea of bringing them back just seems worse and worse.
