Quoting: EugeneOregonAwakened This is what I was thinking as well. Retinal degeneration of some sort. I found this. "Decreased color vision. Cells in the retina that are responsible for normal color vision decline in sensitivity as we age, causing colors to become less bright and the contrast between different colors to be less noticeable. In particular, blue colors may appear faded or “washed out.” While there is no treatment for this normal, age-related loss of color perception, you should be aware of this loss if your profession (for example, artist, seamstress or electrician) requires fine color discrimination." I'm the 60 year old and I'm very aware of colour, being an artist and ex jeweller. Like a musician has attuned hearing, I see things that tend not be registered by many people. The sun is absolutely, definitely a lot whiter and brighter under the same conditions and same colour sky. |

Years ago there was a thread on here about having to change the old color films so they would show colors corectly with the new lighting. If you look it up white is the next color up after yellow in the heat scale for stars. |

It is no longer [possible without burning your eyes out. I think it has more to do with the atmosphere changing and not the color of the sun. It is much different than it was 20- 30 years ago. No doubt. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 17442528 United States 03/11/2013 02:51 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Blue Skies The reason the sky is blue is described by a phenomenon called Rayleigh Scattering. In our atmosphere there are molecules of size near the wavelength of visible light. Due to their small size they tend to disperse white light into its colours. It so happens that blue light is dispersed the most. Apart from these molecules, there are innumerable number of dust particles in the atmosphere. So, after the first dispersion, blue light continues to be reflected off each dust particle until it reaches our eyes. With every reflection blue light loses intensity, which is why the sky appears light-blue. When it rains, the raindrops, as they fall, imbibe the dust particles present in the atmosphere. Thus, the number of dust particles are significantly reduced. Hence, the number of subsequent reflections are greatly reduced. Thus, bluer skies. As global air pollution has increased, our skies have gone from a once-remembered rich, deep blue to a greyish light-blue. This same phenomenon may also account for the changes to the appearance to our Sun. In the future, when exotic clean energy technologies are universally adopted, our skies will be as deep a blue as our faintest of childhood memories can recall. |

I also remeber a paper left on the lawn would take almost 10 days in the sun to go yellw..these days...its yellow in one day. I also remeber the sunscreens used to be 5+..and they were plenty.. Then in 1998 they brought in 15+...then in 2010 they made it 30+ and its STILL only good for two hours in the sun. But its global warning RIGHT??..our cars have made the sun 10 time more intense and turned it from a gentle yellow to a feirce bright white you can even glance in the general direction of without burning your eyes out. |

Yeah, you're right, the sun must be changing sequence, that's what you're getting at, right? Nevermind that process occurs gradually over millions of years, to the point where the amount of change in your entire lifetime would be in-perceivable. How much time do you think we have, Einstein? Months, a year? Also, have you noticed that time seems to be speeding up, and kids seem to have less morals? Because these are all things that EVERY HUMAN BEING THINKS IS HAPPENING AS THEY GET OLDER. I guarantee you ten thousand years from now some dipshit in a silver jumpsuit will be posting 'I think the sun is getting whiter' on Atheist-Like Poductions on the Astral Thoughtnet and thinking he's on to something. |

I've been involved with photography since the early 70s. Calibrating the machines and all sorts, as well as taking photos. Nothing has changed. The colour temp of the Sun is the same. The normal exposure for a daylight shot has not gotten faster, as would have to happen. It is the same. For those who imagine that it has gotten whiter (hotter, brighter), tell me how many degrees Kelvin it has changed by and what is the new exposure time for daylight shots with 400ISO (for example). I mean, just give me a rough estimate - even. Most of you wouldn't even have a clue what that means, let alone answer it.. |

So I wont waste anymore time talking to stupid canadians. 1. Don't you mean, how do I explain YOUR PERCEPTION of the sun changing it's color? Because it looks the same as it always did to me. When you were a kid everyone drew yellow suns for the same reason they draw green ground, a blue sky, and a red house...because they're working with a box of wax sticks in primary colors, and they lack blending skills. Go into an elementary school and take a look at the pictures (that is if you're allowed within 50 yards of one) and you'll notice the kids are still drawing yellow suns. 2. This paper you are yellowing...unless you are using a perfectly preserved 30 year old piece of paper to perform this test, it isn't scientifically sound. Different methods of treatment, the chemical content of the paper will affect how fast it yellows. I don't know if you've noticed, but the modern corporate motto is 'dilute the product with cheaper filler as much as possible to squeeze every last buck out of it'. Your paper is yellowing faster for the same reason my Sour Cream and Onion chips don't taste as good as when I was a kid, and the same reason McDonalds smells more like a Pfizer lab than a restaurant. You still buy it when they skimp, so why wouldn't they? 3. During the Maunder minimum the sun didn't go 'dim'. There was simply a reduction in sunspots. The overall luminosity would not have been affected. If the sun has an 'upswing' in the way you're comparing it to the minimum, we will simply have an increase in active sunspots (which we don't). |
