If you read the gospel (And really, everyone should - before subscribing to all this New Age stuff), at one point the Apostles encountered a man possessed and were not able to cast out the Demon. Jesus got annoyed with them that they didn't have enough faith, and had to go do it himself. (It's one of my more favorite stories - kind of makes me chuckle). Anyway, when the Apostles asked Jesus why they were not able to cast out the demon, he said that that particular type requires much prayer and fasting to be removed. Mark 9:14-29. I beg all of you - this is a very serious topic and situation, and misinformation could end up causing a lot of harm. Again, I urge - please seek help from a Priest. That goes for anyone here who has messed around with spirits. You are way in over your heads. Yes, good point, and I'm aware of this, and know some about various types of demons. What I wanted to point out, from the verses in Act, is that, when casting out a demon in Jesus's name, there's other factors to consider. For example is the person casting out the demon, even a Christian. Here's a commentary about the verse. Jesus I know; to be the Son of God and Messiah, and own that he has power of dispossessing spirits, of which there were many instances in the days of his flesh:
and Paul I know; and own to be a servant of the most high God, by whom miracles of this kind have been wrought:
but who are ye? you are not the disciples of Jesus, nor the servants of God, but the children of the devil, and have no power over us, but on the other hand are subject to us. [ link to bible.cc] From researching exorcists, they also state, they have a hard time expelling demons, if the exorcist, is living in sin. So if a person is telling a demon to leave in Jesus's name, again, there's other factors to consider. Another factor to consider: James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
