I believe in the Planet Earth series by BBC it talks about these specific trees, apparently some of them are the oldest living trees in the world, alive since the time of Christ.

My grandmother was a lover of trees. When we moved from NYC to the burbs of NJ she planted trees in our yard. She was not terribly good at placement..we had lilac bushes planted in the shade and narry a blossom did we see...however, we had variety not seen in anywhere else in our neighborhood.

Didn't look since the others said it was down. Aspens form colonies. Some are ancient and huge. All of those trees you see in an Aspen grove are likely clones of one seedling. How cool is that?
